I find it funny that every game is a WoW clone yet Blizzard copied pretty much every mmo there is.

Blizzard didnt copy per se but took all the ideas from MMOs and expanded on them and combined it all into one place. Rift was fun for my during the beta events but no time to currently play them. Ill pick it up in May or when a free trial comes out

There is always going to be a comarison to WoW no matter what comes out. It's been the most inovative. Can you honestly think of an MMO that does the exact same thing as WoW (a successfull MMO) that does things the exact opposite of WoW?

No.

Other MMOs are going to have elements of other MMOs in them. That's just life.

IF you think Rifts is going to be the thing to get you off the BLizzard teat...you need to switch genres.

No.

Maybe I'm reinforcing your point, but that seems like an impossible request. WoW basically takes anything recognizable, mutates it, and then builds a quest/fluff item/achievement/dungeon out of it. I mean, as fun as it was, the only thing new was the well-crafted and customizable engine/UI. WoW is to MMOs what DOOM was to first-person shooters: a significant tech evolution.

qft. I´ve always been hoping for a better engine for Daoc. WoW release blew me away with its clean flow of animations and movement.

It is hard to say if Rift really is a decent opponent to WoW since it is a clone. We´re pretty much trading one poison for another .

Imo, Rift is the "wrong" game to be considering a true opponent.
Games like GW2 would be more like it, because it is based on a different concept rather than copypasting stuff 1:1.

Personally, Rift is worth playing for those who have been playing WoW way too long (like me). I hope they will improve those stiff animations, although deep within, I doubt they will.

Grr, almost saved up the cash.
DoWII: Retribution or Rift, daaaaayum.

I went through the class listing in Rift and I did slobber ^^ but then I saw the multiplayer vids with all the tactical gimmicks of DoWII. DOH!
Can´t make up my mind now.

(awesome pic, Kayfabe ^^)

I think he just means that WoW is the median-line of whatever. You could bring out any game and it will always be compared to WoW.

WOW is the Chuck Norris of games.
But I got tired of them both.

Rift has proven to me that I am tired of the genre. What I was sick of in WoW is present in Rift. Rift is a good game, not bashing it, but I learned my problem with WoW has carried over.

I need a complete break entirely. Rift is just not different from WoW enough (IMHO).

I think this is where I am at this point.

My WoW guild is pretty large and members are leaving WoW wholesale in favor of Rift. I just canceled my WoW sub but I have no yet bought Rift. I am just burned out on killing elves I guess.

I have a number of friends at work the left wow and none are playing rift. blizzard is doing a good job of driving people away all by them self. rift is lucky cause they will pick up some of those driven away.

Balance in a game is only achieved
when no class is fun to play...
