Yes WOW has met its match..I predict rift has 10million subs by April and wow is down to 1million

Now this is a prime example of internet fanboyism taken to it's logical extreme. I hope all of the trolls are taking notes, as this sets a new standard for them all to strive for.

If you think my opinion is idiotic, re-read yours.
Dont worry I will give my opinion anyways.
The PvP MMO is NOT a "niche" market, Mythic is just a "niche" company.

Rift is wow with a different skin.

It's the same goals.
Carrot chase to get gear. Once you get the gear they will make it obsolete. Do instances.. Do raids.. schedule raids. Take up specific nights.

I don't see anything innovative enough to switch to. The things i'm tired of in wow.. are the same in Rift.

Perhaps my time in mmorpgs is coming to an end. I'm not young enough to be fooled or turn a blindeye to what is similar game dynamics. And I'm getting too old to enjoy putting the time in to create the alt backups that i would normally create.

I'll stay with wow. Not because I see rift as a bad game. I just see it as a close copy of wow. Maybe i'm jaded. who knows.

Seems to me that many of the players simply enjoy the Level 1 to Max Level grind. New content, new mechanism, and new experiences are kind of refreshing.

But the fundamental of MMORPG has always been the end-game grind no matter which game you choose.

If you think WoW's end game of 10-12 hours of weekly raid or 10-12 hours of weekly Arena/BG is bad, wait till you experience some of the other grind-based MMO that requires you to put in at least 20 hours a day to stay competitive at the end game -- essentially, if you don't bot, or involved in some real-money-transaction (RMT) in those games, you may as well quit the game once you hit max level.

Troll acc, yeah - but it´s still a viable topic (although many already gnawed on it to the bone).

"we're not in azeroth anymore"

Yeah. Those wacky ads.

Reminds me of that "Why play in a World of Wait".
I think that was some addon for EQ2 referring to the 40man runs.

Are there more like those? While we´re at it...

Everybody - meaning non-wow MMOGs - have been taking a stab at WoW all the time. Beats me if it is a marketing tactic or simply some "IP prejudice" (prejudism, idk if this word exist).
While WoW is a commercial success, I would never personally say it is "the best" as many do say that Ultima Online and Daoc oldschool = zee best times ever (ymmv).

About Rift? I see it as others do.
It´s a WoW clone - BUT it combines that bit of PQ from Warhammer and some twist-n-mix specs/subclass from Baldur´s Gate or FFXI (roughly). The game is most certainly not the brainchild of the genre regarding its mimicry, but it is doing something for a community that Blizzard has been teasing with.

Okay, the last sentence is probably not well expressed - but I think we can agree on the many "conspiracies" that Blizzard/Activision following some doctrine as in "How low can we go with that limbo bar?".

In my opinon, there was so much that could have been done with WotLK.
As for now, Cataclysm really shows the dumbdown at its best. Note that I could be tossing ymmv everywhere since the reality shows everybody on OFs not saying a word about dumbdown but it is noticeable that the "dumbdown" is there.

That is why I like CCP/Eve Online more. It builds up on the previous content. There are fails, too, every now and then but it does not produce ghost cities like in WoW.

In fact, I´m surprised we still haven´t seen some Blizz bluepost POV on mmo-champ stating anything about "We know people say we are dumbing things down but blablabla". Imo, I think Blizzard doesn´t even know about that aspect as people just seem to eat what they get.

Why should they, anyways - they should still have a ~11million strong subscriber pool or not?
I´m actually surprised that they did not file some lawsuit regarding all the obvious plagiarism from Rift (there are way too many stolen things ^^, if you ask me) -- but I´m just a grunt.

OffTopic
I´d be more vibrant and mouthy but lastly I´d just be some talking $-symbol grunt who plays on EU - so it is even more that they wouldn´t give a fffffffffruit.

Speaking of grunt, I am sooooooooooo looking forward to running around as an IG grunt or Greenskin in that upcoming War40k MMOG. Ironically, I could care less if that were a wow or a Mythic warhammer:age of rofling-clone like Rift. Heck, even it would be some AoC-Gaute fail award -- War40k as an MMOG would just be awesome.

back OnTopic.
I will be watching Rift from afar with my binoculars but I am intending to buy it in the future.
I do have the ~45Euros but my eyes are wandering more towards the recently released "Dawn of War II: Retribution".

Playing Rift atm, and enjoying it. It's nice to finally have something different then WoW. Oh and it's soo nice not missing Wow. I'm however still waiting on SWTOR. Now if Rift comes out with DAOC type end game PVP, then I could see myself being a subscriber for a very long time.
