Looks like RIFT may be giving WoW a run for it's money.
I figure if any game is going to lose subs to RIFT it will be WoW.

Rift just proves that a lot of us are sick of WoW and we want a good, competant game to replace WoW with.
However, as good as Rift appears to be so far, you need to keep in mind it uses the exact same gameplay dynamics that WoW does, with 2 inovations (the class structure and the RIFT's).
So my point is, once the newness wears off and people hit the level cap, I think those who were sick of grinding endlessly for loot in WoW, are going to be sick of Rift just as fast.

WoW will just be losing subs over time because it's getting so old. I'd agree Rift is one of the few MMOs (almost) ready for release to have come out in many years but as Mithan listed it only has a couple "special" things about it so many people will likely burn out on Rift in a short time too. I'll enjoy Rift for a while just for the new setting but I can't see myself playing it anywhere near as long as I played WoW or even EQ1.

I predict that as usual, people will screw with rift for 1-3 months, then 90% of those enjoying the diversion will be done with it. Same old.
I know exactly 1 person who's not even in my guild that preordered rift, didn't do much with the beta, and still hasn't even logged into rift as of yesterday. I reminded her that rift has been live a few days ago and maybe she should log in and check it out.
What is kind of sad is that rift has a decent amount of hype yet threads like this happen...or you see ads for rif with "we're not in azeroth anymore" - because even the rift team can't stop thinking about WoW.

What's also sad, Voqar, is when the same poster made a thread on Rift forums saying how much Rift is bad and should have been like DAoC... and then he pretends promoting Rift here? On a 3 post account?
Please... we are all more experienced than that in VN board habits!
