Board Rules / FAQ
Welcome to the Vault Network Boards. These rules exist to keep the boards usable, readable, and worth preserving. Keep the old-school forum energy; leave the abuse, spam, and chaos at the door.
Board Rules

Use common sense and do not make the moderators babysit you.

  1. Stay on topic. Use the right board when possible. A little drift is normal; deliberate derailing is not.
  2. No harassment or personal attacks. Criticize ideas, posts, games, companies, and decisions. Do not target people with abuse, threats, stalking, or dogpiling.
  3. No hate or dehumanizing content. Slurs, calls for violence, and attacks based on protected traits are not welcome here.
  4. No spam or low-effort flooding. Do not post empty replies, repeated messages, referral links, scams, or junk just to raise your post count or star rank.
  5. No illegal content or instructions. Do not post pirated software, stolen material, malware, credential dumps, or instructions for abuse.
  6. Respect privacy. Do not post someone else's private information, private messages, real name, address, phone number, or off-site account details without permission.
  7. Keep adult or graphic content off the public boards. Do not post pornography, shock images, gore, or extreme content.
  8. Use spoiler warnings when appropriate. Give people a fair chance to avoid major spoilers for games, shows, books, and events.
  9. Do not evade moderation. If you are banned, suspended, or asked to stop doing something, do not create alternate accounts to continue it.
  10. Moderator decisions are not public combat. If you think a decision was wrong, contact staff calmly. Public flamewars about moderation may be removed.

Moderators may edit, move, lock, delete, restore, or archive content as needed. Severe or repeated problems may result in loss of posting privileges.

Code of Conduct

Assume there are real people behind the usernames. A good forum can handle disagreement, sarcasm, old rivalries, and blunt opinions. It cannot work if every thread turns into personal abuse.

  • Be direct without being cruel. You can tell someone they are wrong without trying to humiliate them.
  • Argue in good faith. Do not intentionally misquote, bait, sealion, brigade, or derail.
  • Give newcomers a chance. Point them to the right place instead of turning every mistake into a pile-on.
  • Preserve the archive. Old posts are part of the site's history. Do not vandalize threads, spam archive boards, or intentionally damage context.
  • Report problems instead of escalating them. Use the report link when a post or private message needs staff attention.
  • Accept staff calls and move on. You can appeal politely, but continuing the same behavior after a warning will make things worse.

The goal is not to make the board sterile. The goal is to keep it usable, readable, and worth preserving.

Forum Usage FAQ

How do I post a new topic?
Open the board you want to post on and click Post New Topic. You must be logged in to post.

How do I reply to a thread?
Open the thread and click Post Reply. If the thread is locked, normal users cannot reply.

How do polls work?
On boards that allow posting, click Post Poll. Polls show live results, and logged-in users can vote once.

Can I edit my posts?
Yes, within the board's edit time limit. Moderators may also edit posts when needed for moderation or cleanup. Edited posts may show edit metadata.

What are the star icons next to usernames?
Stars are post-count ranks. They are just a visual forum rank and are not staff badges. Spamming to gain stars can get posts deleted or your account moderated.

How do private messages work?
Logged-in users can send and receive private messages. Reported private messages may be reviewed by moderators. Staff cannot browse all private mail unless they have administrator-level access to the PM history tool.

How do I report a post or private message?
Use the Report Message or Report This Message link. Include enough context for staff to understand the problem.

Why did my post disappear?
It may have been moved, deleted, hidden, or merged by staff. If you are unsure, contact a moderator rather than reposting the same thing repeatedly.

What does locked or sticky mean?
A locked thread cannot receive normal replies. A sticky thread is pinned near the top of the board because staff consider it useful or important.

Are archive boards editable?
Archive areas may be read-only or restricted to preserve old forum history. Treat archived threads as historical records, not live discussion spaces.

Who do I contact for account problems?
Contact a moderator or administrator. Include your username and a clear description of the issue.
