People have been predicting WoW killers for 6 years. The only thing that can kill WoW is blizzard.
This is probably true. It definitely won't be the next big WoW Clone that kills it, so Rift looks to be out. I'm not knocking it for those that are enjoying playing it, but there is nothing new to see here.
"We're not in Azeroth anymore!" They can't even think of anything interesting to say about their game, so they try to gain glory by association. I might have tried it if not for that silly ad.

I think the advertising was good.. the rift opens up and thats the point at which you realize you are playing a different game. Its spot on.
Rift is a fun diversion.. I dont think the few additions / updates on past games will hold a ton of subscribers for the long haul. Time will tell. I just dont feel the "innovation" of having everyone run rampant around the zone closing rifts is going to keep people interested. They did a good job making people think they are accomplishing something...but all the criticism of WoW and their "carrot-on-a-stick" is being played out on an even larger scale every time you hear the rift air raid sirens go off.
That being said.. I think Ill go play Rift for a bit.

Looks like RIFT may be giving WoW a run for it's money.
I figure if any game is going to lose subs to RIFT it will be WoW.
PvE Fans, here is your gem. It's called RIFT.

Unfortunately they tried very hard with Cataclysm

If WoW has taught us anything, it's that the MMO subscriber population is not fixed. Most folks who experience it once will continue to play some form of MMO from then on, yet there are plenty of new folks joining the MMO world every day.
Just like money: it isn't a zero-sum game.

I've been playing Rift since launch day.. It has its good and bad up against WOW.. I miss flight points and hearthing to a city is a 1 hour cooldown. Mages are more squishy in RIFT than they are in WOW. It takes a lot more to complete a quest at a certain level because the mobs come in packs if you dont really watch it or sometimes you have no control. Taking Rifts down is somewhat fun .. The economy is blah- no one is buying anything on the ah ( or at least my server).. It's something else to do for a bit but I don't ever see myself leaving WOW totally for RIFT. They can't even offer guilds a guild bank! /sigh There are only certain places to do certain crafting and since there isn't flight points it can become a P. I. T. A .. And even if you are a level 17 like myself, running through a set of level 8 mobs, they will still knock you off your mount. High and lows on that game ..
Just my .02 ( not like it's worth a lot)

Rift's classes are awesome. If you like alts you will definitely enjoy Rift. It's just another mmo though so nothing special about it. At least its polished. I can see it playing for six months before getting bored. Cataclysm is just plain boring imo.
