There is no mind-body division the way you are making out. Believing you are going to recover has a huge effect on your ability to recover from all sorts of serious illnesses.

Your worldview is simplistic and unsupported by real scientific evidence.

The alcohol is a good example, some people get drunk when they think they drank alcohol.

Placebos have a clearly demonstrated scientific effect, not merely on "mental" maladies but things like cancer as well.

Desire to recover effects your ability to recover. Belief you will recover effects your ability to recover. Obviously not everyone who believes they will recover will. But it has clearly demonstrated scientific effects.

The body is not divorced from the mind in the simplistic way you think. Someone who doesn't care if they die and thinks they're going to die is less likely to recover from cancer than someone who wants to live and believes they will live.
