Very patriotic of you Bonk.

P.S. Many European countries and cities used to give big subsidies like American cities do now. Most of them don't any more because they realized it's a bad system. Why can't America do the same? Why is Europe so far ahead of America when it comes to sports management?

Its a small market. How about Baltimore Orioles? San Diego Padres? Sacramento Kings? Milwaukee Bucks?

True. This is a great way for a city in the US to not have a sports team

Small means something different to you, Tyche. If San Diego, Toronto and Baltimore are small. I will agree to disagree. I still will cite Green Bay as a textbook success.

Small market Mo. Small market. How about this. I don't try and convince you and we stay on our sides on the issue.

Stadiums are used for a helluva lot more than just games. Football stadiums are used for what, 8 sundays a year for football?
They are always being rented out for concerts, conventions, rallies, etc. A tax payer owned stadium makes money for the community, if it is well managed.
There lies the problem.

tax money shouldn;t be used to build stadiums for billionaires.

The billionaires keep their teams even after they move to another city. It's the citizens of Seattle that lost their team.

Doesn't surprise me Paul-the-worst-libertarian-ever supports taxpayers financing stadium construction for private for-profit sports teams.

Oh I went a lot further than that. I said I wasn't opposed to public ownership of teams.

(Almost) every town has a soccer team and stadium in Europe and few of them are taxpayer financed.

Why is America so much worse at sports management than Europe?

If you try to do a major construction project in the US a thousand groups will come out of the woodwork and start making demands and trying to get payoffs. A new stadium that should cost $250 million ends up costing $750 million. Team owners and the league would be happy to pony up the $250 million. The city and the state though are major contributors to the jacking up of the ultimate cost. Owners want them to kick in to help cover that. The investment by the government also serves as a motivator to clear away a lot of unnecessary red tape.
