I started farming some Afrits again so let me give some people some good pieces of advice.

First thing I did was level up metalworking by both my Mentalist and Druid, it probably took about 4-5 hours or so, but you can dual log in windowed mode fairly efficiently by moving the windows so they are not quite on top of eachother and keeping each qbar visible. If you are starting from scratch, take metalworking up to 300-500, then AC, WC, and Fletching up to 100-150, this is the fastest way to get metalworking up to about 900, which is approximately what you will want. Actually my Druid is 900+, but my Mentalist is only ~720, sometimes when salvaging on the mentalist I don't get the full amount of arcanite metal bars, on the other hand sometimes I do, so you might be ok only taking metalworking up to 600-700, but its best to go to 900. Once you are 900, you'll get to 1000+ when you trinket the metal bars you've acquired (so as to double the coin you get from selling them back to the merchants). Of course it also would not hurt to have someone who is maxed out in clothworking and leatherworking, but most of the drops are metal so you can salvage quite a bit just with metalworking.

Now here are some tips on killing the Afrits (not Master Afrits, not elementals, the purple con ones in between). The reason they are annoying is because they spawn animated artifacts which will eventually get on your caster and interrupt the heck out of them. However, is rare that both my Druid and Mentalist are being attacked at the same time, so I never end up dying, at least one of them can heal. I did this a few times on an Eldritch as well, and it wasn't so bad but I had to burn some insta's on my Druid, so I don't know how well it would work in the long run.

Here's the basic strategy. The afrit will run around and drop little rune bound chests onto the ground, which after 2 seconds disappear, and then a bunch of animated artifacts spawn and start to attack you. But you can avoid this by killing the rune bound chests very quickly. The best way to do so is to constantly attack the Afrit with an AoE damage spell, so that if you are hitting it every 2 seconds, you should constantly be killing the rune bound chests. I've killed Afrits like this where I don't even need my bot at all, and it takes 45 seconds max, but this has a lot to do with luck. Because the Afrit every so often will stop running in circles and come to attack the person who is attacking it. At this point, while it is attacking me I get ready to quickcast a spell, and as soon as it stops attacking me, I try to quickcast the AoEDD to kill the rune bound chest that will spawn behind it. But this just doesn't work 100% of the time. I usually get the Afrit down to 60-70% by stun nuking and then AoEDD'ing while it runs away for a while, and then comes to hit me. After that I just sit there trying to cast through 4-5 animated artifacts, while throwing in heals on my Druid. Sometimes the artifacts just keep coming and coming and coming, and its an annoying 5 minute fight while my salamander pet very slowly takes down the Afrit with me throwing in a quickcasted DoT once in a while, or once in a while landing a DD through all of the interrupts. If the Afrit is too close to you, you will get hit by the explosion of the rune bound chest when it disappears. So if you have artifacts on you, run a little bit away from the Afrit, so that when the artifacts disappear you can start to spam AoEDD again before the next chest explodes and you get a bunch more artifacts on you. Also place the Druid about 1000 units away from the Mentalist, its just good common sense, you want to have warning before you're about to get interrupted, and you don't want to get hit by the explosions.

If you don't want to read the above (well too late now, isn't it?), then basically all it comes down to is stun, nuke, nuke... and then once the stun wears off, AoEDD to kill the chests so that you don't get any animated artifacts attacking you.

Now, that's not all there is to it, because somewhere in the middle of all this, a red con 'Confuesd Afrit' will spawn out of nowhere and then disappear in about 6-7 seconds. Killing it before it disappears will give you another random drop of loot. Unfortunately, this isn't so much about skill as it is about luck. The Confused Afrits resist a lot but they get hit for a lot of damage and don't have much HP. In other words, sometimes I can kill them in 3 casts, other times I can cast 9 times and then they dissapear without me getting the loot. But of course, casting 3 or 9 times its completely dependent on whether or not the Afrit or the animated artifacts are attacking you, that's why its got a bit to do with luck. However, the Mentalist has a cool little tool for this, its the RR5 ability, as I just found out it works in PvE as well, and now it is insta cast which is great. Sometimes when the Confused Afrit pops, I can hit my RR5 so that the Afrit and all the artifacts within 150 radius will no longer be able to see me, and then i can free cast on the Confused Afrit, but even this doesn't always work. Perhaps on Alb you'd be fine because a Smite Cleric could take it down no problem, probably a Shaman could do the same, but not on a Druid, it's quite a shame that the only form of DPS is a baseline DoT.

The other very important thing is to get a Focal Mythirian. I just bought an Average Focal Mythirian for about 1p in housing, it increases the damage on my DD from about 350 to exactly 480 each time just by wearing the Mythirian. Mind you I still run out of power before dropping the Afrit completely since i'm spamming the AoEDD which is less damage and more power consumption, so bring a long some potions and a GPM to switch in when needed as well. I also respecced my Mentalist to have WP VIII and some other passives, which obviously helps quite a bit.

That's pretty much all you need to know. I don't have an Enchanter but I think this would probably work well with an ML9 pet, since it would probably hit for a ton more damage than the Salamander Pet (which is like 100 dmg per swing).

Also I salvage everything on the field, which saves a lot of time because they don't always respawn quite fast enough. I also realized that sometimes the Elementals will respawn very fast (sometimes once you salvage one or two items they respawn and you can kill them again). After about 2 hours, I had maybe 12 reforming energies (which sell for approximately 750g a piece on Hib, about 600 arcanite metal bars (which will yield 3p), and maybe about 1000 units of glass. Well I don't think the amount of plat you make is very impressive, but I don't really know of a good way to get plat on my own, seeing as the only expensive items these days are from ML10.

Yeah, suppressive (aoe) fire is the best weapon against the medium afrits. My own little farming crew (3 accounts, 2 computers) is two light enchanters and a nature druid. That is the best combination I can think of. Druid has ML9 pet with group heal procs, enchanters both have ML9 pets and aoe damage. An added benefit of having three pets is that half the animated artifacts are aimed at the pets.

just curious, how much do the ML9 pets usually hit for? I bet you can drop the Afrits in about a minute like that? Do you ever kill the Master Afrits? Oh, and how much plat do you make in an hour or so, including salvaging?

I've tried elementals with a ranger, but can't get either of the weakened afrits. How can I at least get one of them? I can always get one with a vamp, and I seem to kill faster with the vamp too, but I'd love to utilize my ranger for some PVe farming.

Enchanter ML9 pets hit for 250-400 (not including crits) compared to around 100 without ML9. The Afrit can be killed in less than 30 seconds like this (including the confused Afrit) but usually I slow down the nuking to allow the confused Afrit to spawn I just nuke when chests are spawned which is easy to predict. I never bother with Master Afrits, the medium Afrits are so much easier. No idea how much plat I make. It's not *that* much more than an effective soloer doing elementals I reckon. The key is to find a good loop.

Whare are you all doing with the reformed energies? I've turned in 11 of them for one phoenix loot and two zahur's, but looking at the prices of all the toa stuff it seems like zahur's ring is the most expensive item you can get, but it's only 11p right now. At 1.8p for a chance at zahur (some reformed energies for 600g on alb) I'm not sure you could get enough rings to really break even.

Do you all just sell the reformed on your merchant?

I turn mine in, I was looking for a specific item (not to sell). Now that I have given up hope on that item and moved on to complete the template I was working on without it, I will still do elementals and salvage the metal and then just randomly try for goodies.

I just sell them on my merchant, 3 reforming energies for about 2-2.5 plat. I don't know who's buying them but they always sell pretty quickly, maybe once in a while there's a specific person looking for an item, but from my experience in turning them in to look for specific items (especially Zahur's ring), well you could lose an awful lot of plat and come out with a bunch of Zahur's Useless Hammers or Mauler Bracers.

I'm a little disappointed though, I think they've made some things in the game too easy to get now, and as a result, its hard to make decent plat. The Afrits are ok, at maybe 5-7 an hour if your decent at it, but that's not a whole lot. For example, wish they would have implemented Glass before allowing BPs to purchase ML's and Artifacts, and then making them tradeable. Reason is, some people enjoy farming things for plat especially in ToA, while other people want to stay as far away from ToA as possible. This is fine, but now you can buy an artifact for essentially 1 plat, yet it seems I'd have a hard time farming 10000 + glass per hour to make good money out of it, but maybe I just don't have the right setup, I haven't done much glass farming.
