In my knowledge the diff between greater and average focals is this:

Greater: Increases spell-level (thus resists) with 6

Average: Increases spell-level (thus resists) with 4

So average is sure better then nothing, but greater yields higher payout in the long run.

Im probably gonna go w/ average til i can get my hands on a greater one!

yeah well what it says on the delve isn't right, it says it just increases spell level for resist purposes, but when I equip an average or greater, my dd damage goes from about 400 to 480 on Afrits.

I would think the reason the damage goes up is the fact that the spell matches the targets level, too.

Say if you nuke a green-con mob, and a blue-con, and a yellow con, the damage varies still (i think?) even if their resists are neutral?

So say a greater focal makes your nuke lvl 56, wouldn't that apply to the same thing? You nuke a yellow con and a red con mob @ 50 for diffrent dmg. If you put a focal myth your nuke goes higher in level, thus evening out the red-con's higher reduction. So if the red-con mob is 56, your greater focal myth would make the mobs dmg-table be equal to a yellow con. Sort of?

I may be wrong here, correct me if so is

My example clarified:

Green con: 600 lvl 40

Blue con: 550 lvl 44

Yellow con: 500 lvl 50

Orange con: 450 lvl 52

Red con: 350 lvl 56

Adding a greater focal would make the spell lvl 56, thus giving the same damage as if the mob was yellow con, damage seen in the example above. Is i wrong?

All I know is using an average focal myth increases my damage quite a bit and decreases resists, but upgrading to greater focal i'm pretty sure doesn't increase damage for some reason..
