So you really can't see the problem that might arise with a chain wearing, shield carrying melee class doing the kind of ranged damage a Sorc does when a Cabby debuffs for them?
My warrior is not strong because he wears chain and has a shield. He is strong because he has 20%baseline Master of Magery, and stoicism+det. Stack some AoM and 3,400 hits and it's an un-CC able damage sponge.
Shield is a crutch after the hybrid nerf, arrow changes, block% nerf, and DW penetration. It's all but useless and thanes don't really have the points to spend in it,
Chain is a weak form of a heretic buff,
The game didn't seem to break when heretic's were introduced. 900 is not an uncommon hit from a high rank tic, oh and they got heals too! Yay.
No, when heretics were introduced they were only good for monster rez and a second DI. After the MR nerf being a caster tic kind of lost its purpose until they buffed up their focus spell a few years ago. Then caster tic became a viable option again. Still, if you're letting a caster tic ramp up to 900 you're doing something wrong or you're just getting outplayed.

I'm sure they do. Just a way to achieve such values would be grand, right now there is no way-no how.
Maybe a ramp? Maybe a self base acuity buff 50ish value (would give thanes about 250-280acuity total, still much less than casters at similar rank)
Maybe something completely different? Insta single target DD+debuff with 15 second reuse?
Or no extra damage at all and add some survivability VS casters or CC.

We got it!!!!
Why only hammer WS buff though? That kinda sucks. Although, a 2h hammer template just got a lot easier to build. Can't wait to get home and see what can be done template wise!!!

Because it's the class defining weaponline. 
(and it(hammerline) wasn't half good, compared to the other two weaponlines(sword & axe), thus the weaponline really in desperate need of a boost)

Wow those are some awesome changes for thanes.
Charging reavers should be interesting too.

If this is all that is done to thanes it is VERY insignificant. 10% pierce gives you approximately 10 damage. Hammer line fix is needed but nothing significant...just something that should have been done LONG ago.
I'm sure this is the last time they will touch thanes till the game dies...please give us an acuity buff or scythe like styles or something worth getting excited about.
