I ran around on Pendragon and took a few screenshots (for those who can't be bothered themselves) - http://etaew.wordpress.com/2012/04/05/daoc-1-112-patch-screenshots/

No, they've been a very good very underrated class for a long long time now.
In the scope of the game, they have only very recently been worth having in a group. With additions such as the lullaby, the nearsight, the DD with heals, among other things they have gotten only until recently.
I would assume you never leveled a mentalist back before these changes.
While their utility as a caster was always very good ranging from dots to heals, the class was never really worth having over an enchanter or eld or animist etc.
You would be so wrong it's sick.

Text about Minstrels and Warlord
My minstrel has Warlord, i find it far superior to Sojo when i am solo.

how is warlord a bad spec line?
i think its one of the best lines. doesnt have the shiny efects that a clearly visible like purple giants but close to all of the abilities have its use. most bang for your buck imo
I agree with this, warlord dont need help, ppl just need to see it for what it actually is, an awesome line.

It will really cement mentalists as Hibs #1 caster now though. Dunno who it is on the inside that loves mentalists so much but on the outside the years and years of repeated attention to a _hib_ class is kinda strange to see. tongue
Still more utility on the eld. But I will take both in a group.
Well you can spec differently. Also don't forget that you will most likely not face higher than 12%(with the new change) energy resists, since nearly all healer and most clerics don't want to give up cure nearsight. That means a spec like 18 mana (gettonearsight + 10% debuff) 19 light (with high rr and items thats still a blue pet) and 47 menta you will do a lot of damage while healing a bit. You will also have a very good st mezz, demezz, getto ae for theurg pets, greater heal and a stun that you can reapply via ST.
btw Darkness RM debuffing his own nuke (10%+pierce 10%) against red resists: 219 delve * 0,7 = 153,3
Fire Wizz (15% + pierce) against red resists: 219 * 0,75 = 164,3
Above Menta with 10% debuff against blue resists (12%): 199 * 0,82 = 163,2
or vs Yellow (18%): 199 * 0,76 = 151,2.
So the damage isn't bad and your utility is very nice.
A Dark RM debuffing his own nuke loses dmg output. There is no reason for a RM to debuff for himself unless he is a darkcarver.

^^ That is even more true for mentas. Nearsighting someone for the sole reason of the 10% debuff is a huge damage loss compared to just casting another nuke.
It'll also be resisted a lot as it is a level 18 spell AND dual effect.

. . . because Mentalists are already competitive and wanted in FGs . . .
My mentalist hasn't gotten a group in a month, not even in with my alliance or guild. One of my guildies actually warned me that it was difficult for mentalists to get groups specifically because they don't have speedwarp. Not that I think mentalists are crappy myself, obviously, but you're smoking something if you think they're wanted by groups.

Well, /region pugs are kind of slow to figure these things out. Better groups are a lot quicker to adopt new classes and playstyles when they see an advantage.

True, if a 6 mauler group became FOTM the PuG's would run it to but without knowing WHY they are good.

And when a RM cast a NS they dont debuff at all, Herp Derp.

Who said anything about RMs casting nearsights?
Edit: shouldn't have to explain this but i said that in reference to the comment above yourse where someone mentioned a menta nuking a debuffed target. RM debuffing for himself isn't worth it unless you get to nuke A LOT on that target (until the extra dmg gained excesses the dmg lost from using a lower dmg (debuff)nuke). Mentalists don't deal any dmg with their debuff, so the dmg loss is even greater.

Becuse NS actually have a possitive effect more than the Debuff. a DD nuke really dont exept for some lame dmg. a NS makes him unable to QC returnfire. Thats why i mentioned it.
