In college, I played against several people who went on to play in the NBA. Some played in the pro leagues in Europe.
Before the NBA turned into the joke that it is today, I would catch 10 to 20 games a year in Milwaukee.

Sorry, reffing an NHL game would be 10 times harder than the NBA. That sport moves 10 times as fast as NBA. Hell a lot of time the cameramen lose sight of the puck.

There's nowhere near the amount of contact in an NHL game, the only time there's contact is when players check eachother.
NBA game there's literally some amount of contact every 24 seconds, on every side of the court. Refs have to decide how much contact to allow and how much to blow the whistle on.
NHL is hella easy to ref compared to NFL or NBA.

Not to mention you have a lot more players in the mix at one time in basketball, compared to Hockey. And a lot more contact is allowed in hockey, you just have to watch more for specific infractions.
