Every thread about basketball gets invaded by retarded Packers fans who ruin it, can't do anything about that.

Amen brother.

Tell us more about how you used to watch the NBA in 1876 but now it sucks, you do it in every thread but I still can't get enough.

There's nowhere near the amount of contact in an NHL game, the only time there's contact is when players check eachother.

NBA game there's literally some amount of contact every 24 seconds, on every side of the court. Refs have to decide how much contact to allow and how much to blow the whistle on.

NHL is hella easy to ref compared to NFL or NBA.

ROFL OMG there's no contact in an NHL game? wow you really are dense... and if NBA refs have such a hard time, maybe they need to call up some of the college and HS refs. They never seem to miss a traveling call.

Did I say there's no contact in an NHL game? I could have sworn I didn't say that, and when I look again at my above post, I'm now 100% positive I didn't say that.

And I don't watch that boring crap they call HS/college basketball so I wouldn't know how good or bad the refs are.

I watch all 3 of the NHL, NBA and NFL, I think I'm unbiased on this. Hockey is easier to ref than NBA or NFL, I stand by my statement.

you said there was more contact in basketball than there is in hockey... that's basically saying there is no contact in hockey. Do yourself a favor and watch ANY hockey game... even a pee wee game where all they do is fall down on the ice alot. You'll see WAY more contact in one period than you will in an entire NBA season.

Saying there's more contact in the NBA than the NHL is nothing at all like saying there is no contact in NHL.

The contact is harder in the NHL, sure. But in the NBA the contact is more frequent not to mention more illegal, which means the refs have to be more vigilant about it.

I watch hockey all the time, thank you very much. I'm an eclectic sports fan.

Think about it, there is checking in the NHL all the time, but its usually a legal hit so the refs don't care about it. When do the NHL refs whistle a check? When its a boarding , or when there's a hack, a high stick or a trip. Its pretty infrequent.

In the NBA the refs have to whistle on slight wrist contact, on too much body contact, on trips, on too much contact on blocked shots, on charges vs defensive fouls, on push offs, on hooks, on hip checks, on over-the-backs, on pushes, they have to ignore flops, they have to whistle illegal screens. Its way more difficult. There is some sort of illegal contact almost every 24 seconds on both sides of the court. In hockey, you can sometimes go an entire 20 minutes without a single penalty being called!

No one has even mentioned baseball in this thread. Calling balls and strikes on a 90-100 mph pitch that moves.. calling a travel and charges is more difficult? GTFO.

It's funny that you ask this question...

I watched about 5 mins of basketball the other day, the most of I've watched in the past 15 years or so, and the only penalty I saw called was a travel.

travels are called all the time...don't try and judge a sport based on what you see in 5 minutes time. If that's the case, I could think that soccer is the most exciting sport there is if I'm lucky enough to turn it on just before a goal (which I have done MANY times).

NBA DOES have a lot more contact than NHL. Not harder contact, just plain ole contact. Any time a player near the goal gets the ball and are backing their way in, they've got the guy guarding them with his forearm/hand on his back the entire time and his other hand trying to swipe the ball as often as possible.

they're pretty good about travel calls, and yes, they don't call every foul...because if they did, teams would be shooting 50 foul shots every game and half the team would be fouling out (and don't pretend like it wasn't like that in the 90's, I watched in then too, they did the same stuff).

and I also watch all sports (tennis included which I happen to like a lot, and golf even occasionally)...so no, I'm not just a basketball fanboy either.
