have you not read anything in this post? everyone is already infected with the virus. when you die, regardless of the reason, you WILL turn into a zombie unless your brains are destroyed.

Yes, which makes one of my 2 earlier points. Shane was infected when he was reusing his knife back at the schoolbus. Or Shane and other kid both got infected through zombie, killing knives.
As for the, "its in the air", reason; yes it could explain a lot but not if you try to follow the earlier series. There were quite a lot of dead people in the first and beginning of 2nd season. Something changed if it is in the air, because we've seen lots of dead(not zombie) people along the way.. but I don't buy that.
I'm sticking with infected knives......until I am proven wrong. Where is proof that everyone is infected by this? Eventually they can test for that. If proven right, hope for a cure or vaccine.

That doesn't mesh with earlier episodes and I haven't seen any explanations describing that. I will admit maybe I missed something along the way. Basing it on what I have seen.
Watch every kill and track every non-zombie kill, you will see a diff. Could also be that details changed since this began?

I have a problem with the "everyone is infected" theory too...if it only takes effect after you are brain dead (it's obviously supposed to be something like that I guess), then Shane got up WAYYY too fast to be brain dead...where other people have taken much longer (didn't andrea's sister take like half a day to turn after she died?).

The comic book clearly points out that EVERYONE CAN TURN INTO A ZOMBIE. You do not have to be infected by a zombie to become one.
I am blacking out the following sentence because it reveals events in the season finale:
The dude at the CDC told Rick that everyone is carrying the infection. If you die without serious brain trauma you become a zombie.

We're 95 comics into the comic book and they have yet to reveal anything.
One of the producers / writers was on the Talking Dead talkshow which airs after the walking dead and he stated they would not be revealing the cause of the infection any time soon.
