We're 95 comics into the comic book and they have yet to reveal anything.
One of the producers / writers was on the Talking Dead talkshow which airs after the walking dead and he stated they would not be revealing the cause of the infection any time soon.
It's probably best that they never do in the comic and practically wait until the second half of the final season to show it on tv

On a side note, if everyone is already infected. What would happen if Lori's baby died while still in her womb...say in third trimester....

that's been my thoughts as well...they'll find some way to make the baby into a cure for it and then they will have to go find a place that can produce some cure-darts or something lol.

Seems this whole "everyone's infected no matter what" thing is in the comics? If it is true and there's no getting away from it, then I also will bet Laurie's unborn kid will have some significance to that aspect. Just not sure which path that might be.
Also if word got out that you: "become one of them unless there is head trauma, when you die", I bet a lot more will be, "checking out" with head trauma, unless there was some hope for a cure in the works.
I don't read the comics and generally try to not view spoilers.
