Not so. While you may be traveling out of control at a high rate of speed, you may never recover your ability to steer the car because you are untethered and flying around inside the vehicle. If the police just shot the idiots not belted in (or aholes on cell phones or texting) it would make my driving expirence and the safety of everyone on the road a whole lot better.

Florida is the best at this. Ticket the guy driving a pickup because he has no belt on but it's ok to ride in the bed.

Assuming you survive an accident while not wearing a seatbelt, the medical costs will be much higher as they try to reattach various limbs that are severed as you fly through the windshield, meaning insurance rates go up so the rest of us can subsidize that cost of the decision you claim "only affects yourself".

They can't give you a ticket for just NOT wearing your seat belt. They have to give you a ticket for something else first. Not wearing a seat belt is a secondary offense in most states.

One state with no law for adults.
Looks like 18 where it is secondary(3 of those are primary under certain ages).
That leaves 31 states where it is a primary offense.
So in most states they very well can give you a ticket for not wearing it.
