Only thing I see similar is the zone concepts.

ToA was camping a spawn for hours on end only to have some l337 d00dz roll in on a minstrel and rip the mob from under you

Cat has camping a spawn for minutes on end only to have some l337 d00dz roll in on a mount and rip the mob from under you

DAoC made the mistake of taking a PvP-centric game and coating it with EQ grind b.s., that's why it was a huge failure that ended up ruining the game. Very few wanted to farm for hours and hours and hours and hours

Not even close, this xpac is not bug filled untested crappy coding on a crappy engine made by a crappy company.

Take your drivel back to the WAR forums.

Dont worry I will give my opinion anyways.
The PvP MMO is NOT a "niche" market, Mythic is just a "niche" company.

Was TOA full of quests?

Tbh I only remember doing one line I think and I just ran behind a mass of players from place to place while someone guided us xD
All I remember from TOA is standing at spawns and farming them to death to get drops ^^

Edit: god I really hardly remember anything from TOA ..., unlockable artifacts which completely messed up the gear balance there was in game and suddenly required people to do copious amounts of PvE to be competitive in PvP contrary to before and still wore down after a while. That's about it I think, lol.

Ummm TOA had a ton of quests, they were actually fairly nice for leveling as well..

and Cataclysm completely messed up the balance for level 80's..

Be it Talents (hello Arcane Mages)

and gear..

Couple of nice lvl 80 weapons are present in Cataclysm that is only available for people who bought the expansion..

dunno what exactly you mean by how they are "laid out", but i see no similarities to ToA.

really they can do anything they want to WoW and i will probably like it. daoc was such a horrible game...things like having to level your items and paying/running a buffbot are such ridiculously stupid ideas for a game.

leveling your character is much better then leveling your items *grin*

Though I agree with the Buffbot thing, it does suck you have to spend extra cash for the benefit of buffs.

Isn't that Par for the Course though? The whole TOA thing was because it fundamentally changed the gear scale of the game from PvP to PvE in a game where it was already done an established and in retrospect far preferred other way.

What part of Cataclysm is similar to that then?

Rofl, from reading these forums, and how short the 'levelling' ride to 85 is? Then yes, it's better by far. The farming it took in TOA was massive.

Between the underwater zone and Uldum I also painfully reminisced to a ToA place. Hour and hours of camping those freaking artifacts. So far it has only been superficially ToA-style, so thank our lucky stars for that.

I guess each expansion must have its DAoC comparison thread(s) from a few bored sad people who hoped WAR would be DAoC2 and have nothing better to do, and its "zomg the game is doomed" thread(s). Here, it's even better, we have both in the same thread, makes us win time and read faster

On two chars so far. No problem.

I know that's not aimed at me because I never assumed War would be DAoC2 and actually the game introduced (imho) some good gameplay mechanics that added to the genre. I had an incredible amount of fun in T1-T3! T4 was a mess. They killed it when they failed to understand their customers experience at endgame. Kind of what happened in ToA. They lost touch with what their customers wanted (RvR). The PvE aspect of ToA was actually fun if you could separate it from RvR requirements. (I realize I am a rare voice in that area.)

The concern with Cata, is also that: are they keeping in touch with their current customers' expectations/experiences. (Understanding that a lot of the changes are made specifically with new customers in mind.) And what I'm hearing so far is a mixed bag and maybe the pendulum swung too far in one direction on directed gameplay. It's obviously too early to tell.

Do not mistakes genuine concern about a game that is enjoyed for henny-penny-the-sky-is-falling-hysteria.

Enjoying a game is not the same as being blind to concerns/problems. Caring about it allows expression of same.

That aside, any extended underwater endeavors is of course to bring comparisons to ToA.

There are those who play tank classes, and those that tank.
The weapon is only as good as the person wielding it.
