grinding static spawns was one of the things i hated when i played daoc. however, looking back it really added to the community building and social interaction. had some great conversations while grinding trees in southern most alb zone(cant remember the name).

this. 100% this. I made more friends online in daoc then I have in my history of gaming online which spans maybe 16-17 years if you count aol games. The social aspect when we were 'grinding' made the grind... nonexistent. We had fun and over pulled often to push the limits and see what we could get away with, this happened in all 3 realms as I restarted in each one at least once.

MMO's going main stream sure did help create alot of new titles but it killed the social aspect of the MMO community, not to say you don't make new friends but the amount of people willing to help others has become slim where the number of people just looking to inslult anyone who askes for help has risen to epic levels.

Ahh, grinding trees. good times. For a ranger they were easy prey, sadly they didn't spawn fast enough for my taste.

agreed to the max. Getting a spind group and roaming around was badass back in the day, or rolling to raumarik!

I've got an active subscription to WoW and Star Trek Online, and will have one with Rift, too. Rift has been a LOT of fun, and as other posters said, I hope it remains so till endgame and beyond.

As for the whole "wowkiller" thing, it wouldn't surprise me if the same investors were contributing to both games. No matter who plays what, mad profit for them.

Well, this will be a welcome change as "second MMO" beside WoW until SW:TOR is released and the slackers at Turbine add new content to LOTRO so... I gave in to the temptation

Welcome to the "Darkside" Korrigan!

I hope you have fun.
I know i'm seriously looking forward to 03/01, i haven't been this excited for a launch since WoW, i wanted to play Aion, but sheesh, I could wait between beta events, and launch was fun, but, i'm chompin' at the bits for this thing to release.

I wouldn't have subscribed if I wasn't having fun in the beta events - as I said, I still think that fun will be short lived though for reasons I have already developed (gameplay on rails, no variety in leveling paths, etc), yet fun enough to justify my purchase along with a 3 month subscription (4 months total).

I'm not "excited" - I can play WoW just fine - it's just something to do "for a change", since Turbine and LOTRO are seriously slacking and are more interested in putting crap in their new store for sale than adding content to the game.

Now I have to decide if I make a "tank" or a "mage" - the mage combo I tried is pretty OP for what I wanna do in the game, which is play casually and mostly solo.

I do not disagre with anything you just said, and the wife and i are just hoping it keeps us busy until the 2011-2012 hockey season starts (season ticket holders)

I'm hoping my OCD keeps me busy in the game for 5-6 months, that way i should be able to max out the 2 characters I'm most interested in (bard and melee cleric)
