Let me say first off: I have played and enjoyed WoW since release, and it has been without question the best MMO on the market for most of those 6 years.

I won't declare "WoW Killer" because I think that is always just meaningless.

What I WILL say is that this game (RIFT), for the first time since WoW's initial release and rise to domination, will provide competition. If it is as polished at 50 as it is at 10, and the developers stick to their "you play how you want and still get rewarded" theme, WoW will have to make changes to slow the bleeding.

This game will do much better than any other so far since WoW at getting word of mouth advertising and drawing players. The experience is entertaining, and the gameplay responsive. The graphics are well done and interesting. Dyes. Skill choices. Play style choices.

Blizzard may think they are now able to cram "vision" down the throats of their players, but they may soon learn for the first time that once viable alternatives exist you might want to tone it down a bit and actually listen to your majority player base.

The original WoW devs knew what it meant to put "fun" above all else in game design. They worked each expansion to improve it. This Cataclysm is a departure, and it's not a good one.

I say good for you Rift! I'll put my money in your pocket and give you the chance to keep getting my money. The rest is up to you.

I wish RIFT well and would welcome some more fun, polished game choices but that is one big IF.

I agree and that's why I put it in there. It's the most important unknown.

I might be completely off base here, and hoping for the best.
but if there was a glaring problem with the end game, it would have already been leaked from alpha.

I think the fact that alpha testers are so quiet, is a good thing.

I agree with what you are saying but when folks call WoW the best MMO on the market I always shake my head. It is the best MMO ever for the players who think it is, but not for all. I personaly don't rate my enjoyment of a game based on how many people are playing it. I would love to see Rift have a few DAoC style BG's, your not forced to group with players who may or may not have a clue and you don't have to leave till you level out of it or you want to. It also lets you have alot of small man fights or just hunting others with a buddy, makes for tuns of fun.

The clusterfu#@ that was WAR's endgame was leaked well before the NDA was lifted. I wish Rift all of the luck in the world, as I will also be playing it. But I'm far off from declaring anything a WoW killer. The only thing to kill WoW will be Blizzard's next mmo. I also don't think Rift needs to be a WoW killer. As long as I have fun, I'm all good.

I agree here. For my favorite MMO has been Asheron's Call. It allowed the player to determine how to spend the points and there wasn't much of a "cookie cutter" spec. I like that, at least from what I have read (unfortunately I just got a beta key so I haven't played yet) there are multiple spec options and multiple types of class directions you can go. This of course might change when the end game hits, but I won't lie, so far it's a nice change from having 25354413 <insert class spec here> with 99% the same spec.
