I've always played in bursts myself. My longest stint was probably launch, about 8 solid months (probably less but it felt that long). After that I came back for the expansions for several months at a time. I did go about 4 months when TBC came out, though, probably because I was in a good raiding guild with many RL friends at the time.

My last stint was probably my last though. I only have a few RL friends, Internet acquaintances, or long-time on-line friends that still play it. My last guild of I guess about 200 is also pretty much gone now - either waiting on other games or just done with the genre.

Still, a testament to its longevity - most MMOs only have such heavy activity for a quarter and maybe again when a huge expansion launches. WoW is like Pokemon: seems tired to the rest of us, but there's always a new generation coming in experiencing it all for the first time.

Well, for the bored people, there's hope...

Of course there is Rift, but also:

Everyone at BioWare and EA is working to ensure that Star Wars: The Old Republic is delivered at the quality level you expect from BioWare and Star Wars.

?Star Wars: The Old Republic is expected to launch this year after the close of EA's fiscal 2011 (which ends March 31st, 2011). Information on the release date and pre-order programs will be released as it becomes available.

This is good news for bored people, but bad ones for Rift... apparently, SW:TOR will release just after the first free month included with the game purchase. Smart move, if you ask me.

I just came back for Cataclysm and I'm having an absolute blast again.

I played steadily when WoW first came out, I was a day one hour one member of Argent Dawn server and played for 3.5 years. When LOTRO came out in 2007 I had tried it out in beta but didn't like it so stay in WoW. Then in November, after they had made some serious improvements, I tried it out again and decided to go there. Been there for 3.5 years and have a lifetime subscription so I'll always play that game since I only have to pay for expansions.

I had come back to WoW for WOTLK but didn't have much fun, none of my old friends played anymore and Argent Dawn as a community was very disjointed so I quit after three months. Got Cataclysm shortly after it was released and with all the additions to the game and the changes, at least for me it's a whole lot of fun again.

I'm sure I'll tire of it and close my accounts again while I wait for Blizzard to come up with something new....but for now I'm playing.

There's a vendor inside of the instance of Uldaman?
I don't remember that one...

I remember something with an enchanter that was spawned. Pretty sure it was just a trainer, though, not a vendor. Probably not what they were talking about =)

Reassuring to see how not alone I am with Cataclysm. I started WoW 11/04, with hardly a break longer than a month or two since. I had almost cancelled last November, thinking that nothing in Cata was likely to be very different from the current game. However, I decided to give it a try.

As previous posters have stated, it's a good expansion in general, and WoW is still a great game. But with each expansion/ major patch negating all the effort made for gear, and the Dungeon Finder reducing the desire for guild runs, it's just gotten lonely and repetitive. I cancelled a few weeks ago, though my account doesn't expire until June.

The levelling is way too quick now. My first 60 took 16 days /played. My Goblin just hit 60 with under 2 days /played. There is no satisfaction with hitting 85, since it takes no real effort, and the amount of 85 alts means I could never hope to gear them all up. Even worse, 80-85 is completely linear, other than the choice of 2 80 zones.

I'm not excited about Rift, it seems like more of the same. I played some SW:TOR in beta and I think that may be the way to go, whenever it's finally released.

Heh, this could be a hell of a test to see how Rift holds up. Could it be a Star Wars killer?!!
