OMG! The world just ended. For the first time For the first time since Launch, I have actually canceled both my World of Warcraft accounts, which clearly means I need to make the obligatory post here on the forum This will be the 4th long term break I have taken from WOW, which usually lasts from anywhere from 6 to 12 months but in the past, I never actually canceled my accounts. Truth is, I have only logged in a few times in the last month so the time is here.

The bottom line is this:

I am thoroughly sick of World of Warcraft. I want to puke when I log in. This is a phenomenon that hits me about 4-6 months after the first 2 expansion packs, though this time it hit me about 6 weeks after Catacylsm. The span of time that I last has gotten progressively shorter with each new expansion pack, though Patch 3.3 (when they added the new instances) kept me going for almost a year, mostly because I actually enjoyed dungeon grinding for loot, something I detest with a passion now.

With that all being said, I still love the game. It is still the best MMO out there in my opinion. The problem is simply that I have played it for far too long and need a nice, long break from the game, one that will probably take me until 2012 unless some awesome new content patch comes out in the future, but I doubt that as I no longer care to raid or waste my time dungeon grinding for whatever meaningless piece of loot I will get that will eventually get traded in for another meaningless piece of loot.

I am not quitting for Rift either. Rift, as good as it is, is very derivative to me, so while I will probably end up buying it (I have not yet), I know that at most, it is a game that will keep me interested for about 2-3 months before I get bored of that too.

I've been playing MMO's since they originally hit the internet back in the early 1990 and I am getting totally sick of the genre and I need something new, not new textures or a new world or thousands of "new" quests that have us doing the same old useless thing but something actually NEW. You know, like a MMOFPS or something.

My advice to Blizzard?

Try adding a NEW dynamic to the game, something that we don't currently have in WoW, something that is fresh and fun and creative, not just the same old thing dressed with new clothes. What is this? I have no idea, but you guys supposedly have lots of brilliant, creative people playing. Surprise me.

Thanks for all the excellent years of fun, I will be back eventually.

One drop of the steadily increasing flood. Most RPG gamers beat you to the punch when it became clear WoW wasn't being developed by RPGers anymore.

Yeah, I'm getting to that point too. It's starting to feel "more of the same", and I wish they would introduce something new that would make the game more interesting overall. I came up with a suggestion a while back (phasing zones that have high level mobs attacking it and players take a quest to go there and stop it), but it was met with mixed reviews, and I doubt Blizzard would do it anyway.

Now that I got all my toons to at least 70, I may take another break, as WoW consumes way too much of my free time and doesn't feel very fun anymore, particularly with all these nerfs and lack of fixes to make CC sort of viable in PvE.

Cancelled my 4 the other day... most of them run through the end of February. I'll probably be on this weekend to tank for my guild. Already cleaned up mail, banks etc. Haven't bothered to log other than that for almost 3 weeks.

This will be my 4th break since WoW beta. I'm also usually back in 3-6 months. Guild will be following with their cancellations next month.

I'm not going to say I'm never coming back. I will check the forums to see what the latest is. There are parts of the game I still love.

And a lot of recent unspoken covenants I think (whatever development staff they now have at) Blizzard has broken. I've never felt that way before. So the break just might stick this time. Who knows.

Happy gaming to those still here!

Hope whoever else is leaving, has left, is thinking about leaving finds the fun they're looking for!

And Mithan: and good luck in whatever you do next.

There are those who play tank classes, and those that tank.

I've cancelled. Just using up the last month of the 3 I paid for. Top reasons in brief;

Same sh*t different continents. Cat wasn't as nearly new and different imo as they hyped it to be.
Everything's just feeling like more and more of a grind then ever. Gear, crafting (ugh), you name it.
PvP -- crowd control overkill; let the players play, not stare at their screens stunned, mezzed, sheeped, frozen, whatever.
PvP -- Blizz's inability to address afkers/botters/auto-followers. You won't ban them, so I'm done.
The 'community'. More raging smacktards and a*shats than ever, people are just being d*cks to each other constantly. I miss the days when mmos were populated by real gamers, unabashed geeks, D&D fans, RPGers. Now it's just myspace with dwarves.

That fact Rift is coming made the decision easier, GW2 is on the horizon, plus there's other good non-mmos I'm wanting to play.

Same here as much as I like playing WoW I also think it's one of the best games out but you have to have good people to play with when none of my friends are left playing and half of the old timers on the server are gone then it's time to say good bye. The same thing happened in Daoc for me. The people on my server are what made the game good as soon as most of them were gone it was time to go.
