We have a flashlight in every room of the house. We've also got a couple of led lanterns, 1 large and a few small ones. Power doesn't go out often but we've got plenty.

I have a flashlight right next to my bed. Also I sleep next to my cellphone (I use one of those "sleep monitoring" alarm clock apps on my phone)

I got my flash app on my phone next to my gun cabinet there's two flashlights, I also have a gas driven camp lamp and a electric driven camp lamp.. More importantly I've always got a few hundred rounds of ammo at home.

If the power got really f'ked I think my heater would die, which would not mean much unless it's -35c outside, but if it was I could just build a shelter next to my gas stove light the gas in the oven and the top and just drag my sofa to the stove, built a little comfy nest and sleep there, I've also got a sleeping bag that can handle anything from deep space to the deep sea

Food is also not an issue, neither is water.

I'd probably fall down and die - for safety i keep razor wire in various parts of my home and also i have other devices set up to explode. So if a door is opened then it'll blow up. I'd be screwed if the power went out in the middle of the night.

Somehow that does not surprise me..

I don't understand how people die of cold while inside a house. If you are dry and out of the wind, a pile of blankets or even towels will keep you warm at -40.

Elk, true but that's not cozy.. I'd need a god damn excuse to build my own comfy cozy little igloo out of pillows and a sofa or people would think me nuts

My condo was built in 06 with the new EU standard, means that the insulation in the walls are extremely thick and there's like 3 or 4 panes of glass in every window, I don't even heat my apartment during winter, -35 and without heat would probably if on long enough still bring down the temperature but yeah it would easily be solved with blankets and comforters.

and as I said my sleeping bag is proof for extreme temperatures, used it up north in winter several times.

Oh the one I used it called SleepMaster. It basically just runs while you sleep on your bed and picks up vibrations from you moving around. The theory being it is easier to wake up when you're moving a lot. How it works is when it is about time for the alarm to come off and it detects you moving a lot it'll wake you up. You can set the window for this detection before the wake time (I have mine for 15 mins)
