True, the 911 dispatchers are not authorities - but it shows that ignorance is not an excuse... he's been on neighborhood watch and he was warned not to confront him. So that kind of shows a bit of intent - he intended to confront him while carrying a loaded weapon. The next question will be, did he intend to assault him. We have already established intent to confront.

Sure it does. It shows he was not only mistaken but actively didn't pay attention to someone trying to talk some sense into him. It may not have been a crime to disobey the 911 operator but that doesn't mean it doesn't matter.

Once the kid ran and Zimmerman chased him, the kid was actually entitled to defend himself. It doesn't matter what the Kid did when Zimmerman found him as he was just entitled to 'stand his ground' as Zimmerman was.
Obama is right to use the bully pulpit to make hay about this. Not only out of a sense of common decency, but the safety of US citizens as well. This is big trouble brewing.

I'm not sure why Grymlo keeps citing eye witnesses. No one was on the scene until after the kid was dead.
And Vydor, it really doesn't matter that some people won't be satisfied until Zimmerman sees prison. That's normal. A kid died, his parents will want the man who killed him to see prison. Hell he could be found innocent of any crime. or at least acquitted, and people still won't be satisfied, and it still doesn't matter. What people are justified in asking for is a full investigation of this case that doesn't just shrug and take Zimmerman's word that he was justified in killing the kid. Which is what the police did.
Beyond the question of whether Zimmerman did something wrong, is the bigger question of did the Sanford police do something wrong. And that isn't so much of a question. A narcotics (not homicide) officer questioned (not took testimony) Zimmerman. He was released that night, his gun was never taken as evidence, he was never subjected to a drug and alcohol screening, which is proper procedure. They failed to locate the phone call of the kid talking to his girlfriend. If there isn't enough evidence to prosecute, there's reason enough to believe that its the fault of the police.
Also regardless of Zimmerman's actual ethnic background, the police reported his ethnicity as white. Which could speaks to the reason Sanford police didn't do their job investigating. It's not evidence, but its doesn't paint them in the best light.

A lot of times, decisions on guilt or innocence come down to...what would a reasonable person do in this situation? That the dispatcher asked him to stand down and wait for the police certainly implies that that is what a reasonable person would do.

It is not often I agree so completely with Yuki.
The determining factor of whether this was a justifiable defensive shooting or not will be the objective test - whether a reasonable and prudent person would reach the same conclusions Zimmerman did. Given that he was being told repeatedly that what he was doing was a really bad idea? Yea - does not pass that test.

I'm wondering now, if anything short of Zimmerman going to prison will be acceptable anymore. With the president even weighing in on the issue, it doesn't seem to me as if there is any other outcome that will not cause mass riots.

He's probably going to www.kkk.com and www.aryannation.com for his info because I haven't seen that anywhere. It also doesn't make logical sense.....the guy followed him around all worried about what he was up to...then just turned his back? 
The story I saw is that the kid was on the phone with his GF and that recording doesn't speak well for Zimmerman.
And if you look at the two people I refuse to believe a full grown man, with gun and all hyped up with suspicion suddenly turned his back so a 17 year old kid that was half his size could jump him.
