Boobs and dragons, not sure how they could screw that up too bad.

Not enough of either seems most likely.
It's not really HBO's fault though. From what I understand the later books in particular have lots of sidestories with boringish characters that don't really go anywhere.
They are going to have to figure something out. They can't keep doing it how they have been into the later seasons. It'll get unmanagable, like the books themselves. There's a reason no television drama has ever tried to do so many seperate substories with different characters taking place in different locations before.

Who is the lady saying: Terrors in the night? Is she the one who was breast feeding a teen age child in the first season, the sister of the Boromir dude's wife? I was kinda lost there.

I think some of you should read the books if you can. They are a fantastic read and you'll not regret doing so. I think reading the books enhances the show.
After reading all the books and enjoying them very much so I am really really looking forward to season three already.

Wiki says Melisandre, some sorceress who does all sorts of weird magic that a lot of people complained about at first because it seemed out of keeping with the setting.

Melisandre is the witch/priestess for Stannis. She likes burning people.

I think people get confused with the setting and such....the story isn't really about fighting, and armies clashing and big budget stuffs, it's about the "Game", which in Martin's case get's down into minutia of detailed characters plotting against one another and the outcomes, mostly dark. There aren't many white knights, and the hero doesn't get the girl and no one rides off into the sunset. That may turn people off in and of itself.

I think at some point just following the plot is going to become the biggest turnoff for the average viewer and the biggest threat to the series being renewed. As more and more stories get introduced the pace is going to bog down more and more. They are going to have to start being bolder about cutting out the chaff.

I would imagine that later on, the producers and writers of the show will have to choose which storyline(s) to follow and ignore the rest.

With both it is all about the anticipation!
