I don't think a lot of people realize that the book starts out low fantasy and then becomes high fantasy as the Dragons are brought back into the world and winter is getting closer.

Also, I would highly recommend reading the first three books and then stopping. Book 4 was mediocre and book 5 was so atrocious neither my wife or I were able to finish it

Im not confused by it, it takes a bit for me to realize who theyre talking about or who im looking at sometimes but im liking it so far.

Im just being realistic, its very slow progressing and a lot of dialgue. I dont know if i can handle waiting season after season for winter to come. There have been other hbo series like rome and deadwood that were cancelled.

The crap wth the dragon for instance was only a fewseconds and it went into the cage.

By book five they're still caged up. When they get big enough to fly and eat people, it kind of becomes a necessity.

The only bad book in the series is book four, and the only boring pointless character chapters are Brienne's. Brienne is boring because her entire point in book four is to find Sansa Stark. Where is she? Is she over here? Noooo. Over here? Nope!

The problem is that the reader already knows exactly where Sansa is because she has POV chapters in the book as well. As a result, every time you read about Brienne going here or there, you already know she is wasting her time, so you feel you're wasting your time too.

Not entirely true. You also get to see Jamie's base humanity develop as a result of Brienne. That, I would argue, is more the point of her character.

I read about 100 pages of book 5 and quit. It was horrible. Book 4 was pretty bad as well.

The series has been excellent so far. It's a great show with good writers, great actors, and a intricate, but compelling story....so it should have at least one more good season left in it. Doubt it has much more than that however, book 4 would be almost impossible to make interesting in any way on screen, and book 5 could consist entirely of a bunch of people wandering around doing absolutely nothing for no reason and saying stupid crap that contradicts everything they ever thought or said up till that point.
