It doesn't necessarily need to feel the same to be fun though. The question in my mind, is of having an open enough mind to accept the changes and move on. I've been able to do that and find enjoyment. It's not the same kind or even level of enjoyment, but it's enjoyment none the less.

- People/guilds you used to play with quit so now you have to pug or solo.
- Things have changed in your real life so you can no longer play as much, spend the time needed to keep your template up-to-date, afford a buff bot, etc.
- You find Ywain too zergy and the quality of soloing, small manning, and 8v8ing much less good.

DakRT: And 4 Scouts makes a [stealth] zerg huh?
Zyzyg: What anytime snare are you talking about?...Your anytime style should be Polar Rift. Clearly you don't play a Shadowblade.
Steot: Its fact, I just dont have proof.

depends on what you got the most enjoyment out of the whole experience. Like me, I enjoyed the game but I also enjoyed the people I played with even more. With those people removed....a lot of the fun is removed. That's all.

I'd say mainly people quit because of the low population, realm hoping and zerging.

I agree with this. I've found fun in other aspects of the game as time has gone by. Back in the OF days, I was an 8v8er on Tristan. I hated zergs and people who zerged, called em no talent trash (I save that for Warlocks these days) etc etc. Over time, I've gotten to the point where I don't care about my RPs anymore, don't care about being the best, don't care about being respected, I certainly don't want to put in WORK for any of those things...I just wanna come home after a long day at work and blow shit up. I'm perfectly content with being a trashy zerger.

I've also found new people to play with. For a long time, I avoided finding new people because it always hurt a little when they left. As someone who's been around since beta, I've lost more then my fair share of friends in this game. But it always seems I make a few new friends too, regardless of whether I am PVEing, playing in the BGs, zerg surfing, pugging, whatever. And while I don't have the same old memories with these new guys, they are every bit as good to hang out with as the old ones were, and in many cases better.

Furthermore, I've realized that back in my 8v8 days, I was part of the problem. I needed those baddies that I looked down on back then. They kept my server alive, and gave me a source of RPs. My elitism, 8 man groups that could roll the causal guy who worked a hard day then came home to play a few hours to relax, helped drive them out of the game.

That casual guy has a right to have fun playing too, and it was impossible given what the elite tend to do to those who aren't. There's a sense that if you can, you should...and this imo has helped to kill the game. Hindsight is 20/20 *shrug*.

Here's what I think are the major reasons:

- The game is 9 years old and you just need a change of pace.
- People/guilds you used to play with quit so now you have to pug or solo.
- Things have changed in your real life so you can no longer play as much, spend the time needed to keep your template up-to-date, afford a buff bot, etc.
- You used to play on a smaller server/cluster and find Ywain too zergy and the quality of soloing, small manning, and 8v8ing much less good.
- You are pissed off at all the numerous problems that Mythic never bothers to fix (Halloween moon, WS/con poison, warping pets, the Camelot Herald, the lag and ghosting, etc.), the seemingly random changes they make to screw players over (BG spellcrafting), or the things they promised to do but haven't (remove -Ywain#).
- You're sick of the endless campaign / re-itemization grind and the resulting need to constantly redo your templates.

No idea but what is getting on my nerves atm is the massive amount of stealth players (that mostly are grouped 5+ -- but even ungrouped it gets boring that 9/10 solo fights is versus a stealther).

Lag and bug issues and anything really that is undermining the game working as intended is what will make me quit sometime in the near future.

I have to say also that if it were not for the dragon items, ML10 gear, holiday items, items, items, items, etc, etc, etc that the people that I got to try the game again would still be playing. Nearly every single person I have gotten to come back to daoc has quit within the first month because they just do not have it in them to come back and retemplate characters that have each seen half a dozen or more templates over just the few years before they quit playing. Items are boring and nobody cares about daoc's PvE. They all came back for RvR and within a week were sick of farming for crap to just get one single character out of dozens ready to try RvRing at an acceptable level again.

There are too many things that get in the way of players even wanting to return to the game. Even losing your house when housing is already such a headache to deal with makes it hard to want to come back.

On the long run, 3 very bad expansions : Toa , NF , Catacombs . ( DR and Laby are minor ) . They all of them killed the game ( lore , background , gameplay ) . I only stay because the classic game was such a masterpiece . So adult , so intelligent , ( not that stupid next gen games like wow with stupid background for incults )... But its hard .

Toa : No comment .

NF : No comment .

Catas : terrible graphics , a real shame for such a great game ( Artists for DR and lab were better ). And stupid instances just when this game was depopulated by wow making xp groups impossible for newbies .
