Didn't oakleaf back when he was the scout TL do a tour of mythic and saw that Bedevere and another server were hosted on a desktop? (think that was '02 or ;03)
Maybe yawin is run entirely on a mid-grade computer now to save cost.
a server computer uses the same exact hardware as a desktop computer, the only difrence is servers generaly dont have monitors attached, and are generaly in special cases to mount them to a rack... but otherwise server vs desktop, same hardware...

They might even be virtualised now, seeing as you can get a 10 to 1 ratio on virtual machines against physical hosts. Question is, did they go ESX, Hyper-V or dare I say it, XenServer or some other non-MS flavor.
well, considering all other non-MS virtualizations are BETTER! hopefuly they did go with something else.
especialy sense mythics servers are coded to run in a linux/unix enviroment.... its most likely if they did use virtualization of some sort it would be a linux/unix varient they went with...
and virtual machines in most cases are just as good as a dedicated physical machine, unless the person maintaining the virtual machine overloaded the physical machine with too many virtual hosts.

When you say lag, can you describe the symptoms you're experiencing for me? I'm afraid that if I go to the team and just say "lag" I'll get mostly sideways looks.
Are you experiencing casting delay, damage report delay, non responsiveness?
What time of day are you experiencing negative effects most frequently? What zones (I saw someone mentioned one specific zone, but are there additional ones you can pinpoint it to?)
Are you experiencing it no matter how many players are around you, only in high pop circumstances?
Thanks for the additional information and feedback.
So almost 1 month later.. I wonder what has happened in the meantime to pinpoint the issue (or heaven forbid actually resolve it).
Yesterday evening was horrible!! Even chat text took like >1 second to appear... everything was fine during the day...

LOL. When they don't even understand the definition of lag, you know Mythic's in trouble.

I think I said it in this thread earlier..
But, on Devon, even after the super cluster, we didn't have nearly as bad
of the lag as we have now.
Its apparent to me, Mythic doesn't care anymore.
I'm amazed that Andy is still there.
(and thats not a slam on him either, just saying with all the job cuts and stuff)

Aye,
I have to chime in here... I normally run a near top-notch system. Right now 2.8GHZ Quad core I7, 4Gigs Ram, ATI 5770 1Gig on card. Should be running DAoC without issues and normally does, but in the last few months that's changed dramatically...
Labby use to be the only place I experienced any lag what-so-ever. Now it seems to be everywhere. I get an A+ rating on ping.com, yet lag in frontiers, and especially TD's and any instance dungeon. Took my Necro into Deliah's to level up some friends and it was a horrible mess. Waited a couple days and tried again. It was even worse. Would cast Necro pet and everything seemed to be on a 5 second delay. If I hadn't been a buffed Necro my group would have died horrific deaths on every pull...
I tell players it must be poor server maint. or the like, but I truly have no clue. I just know it's not on my end after weeks of various checks... I live in Northern VA and use to always get awesome ping from Mythic servers, but now-a-days I debate just leaving the game the lag has become such an issue to even doing generic PvE...

I don't think the issue is with Mythic. I play from the UK and lag very infrequently. 99.9% of the time, the game runs amazingly well. It sounds like an issue with the network infrastructure between you and Mythic TBH.
When I used to play on EU, the game was hosted by GOA in France. A router on the Open Transit French network was knackered, and all players outside France has horrendous lag for over a month. I'd suggest that those of you with issues produce a traceroute when you're having problems and send them in to Mythic.
