so obviously... the problem is the sat... not mythic.
If you understood how the internet works you'd stop spewing that nonsense.

actualy, i understand how the internet works just fine..
and i also understand that due to the expensive cost of launching and operating sats that the ISPs have severe limitations on there services, bandwidth caps and the like, and openly say they do and will ban internet services that are deemed to be a problem for there service, and point out multiple only games as one of those things that can cause undo stress on there network and there for often block/ban traffic from alot of online games..
satalites also do heavy traffic shaping on there networks, giving certain services higher priority over others, wich can cause online gaming (considered a low priority) to have higher latency times then they realy should... those higher latency times can cause connection issues to alot of games..
while dont you try googling Sattalite Internet Cannot Play Multiplayer Games and you'll run across many forums and posts were people have issues with connection problems and the like with all kinds of games, recent posts as well as ones going years back..
even comcast and other cable and dsl providers do traffic shaping to allow streaming media (audio/video) to have priority over gaming traffic, but the degredation in service on cable/dsl is barely noticable ... but sat is already a flaky and laggy option so when you add in ISP policies that area against online gaming...

if it were the ports being blocked, we'd not even get to the server selection- we can get past that.. as Divination pointed out , we are already connected at that point... What im beginning to thnk is that there is a part time Dev for warhammer and DAoC ... and he/she is too busy to go into the files and find the problem that got messed up in the patch.
When i talked to customer service, i got the impression that she knew that i knew their canned responce was BS.
EDIT: Arkady - you are not suffering from this problem... and you dont seem to want/or be able to, put the whole picture together... when Hughes controls the the bandwidth, they would close ports for part of the day/everyday(the free time being 2:00- 7:00 am est) this is not being done at all... when i talked with Hughes early on, i kinda annoyed the guy (i was annoyed becuase it took an hour and a half to be tranferred to the states from their Indian customer service center) by repeatedly asking if he was sure that hughes wasnt denying access..he said if Daoc was ever a problem like that, it would have occurred a year and a half ago due before their newest satellite was launched.

see, this is how i know you dont know anything about the internet yourself..
the patch process (camelot.exe) and login process (login.dll) are handled via tcp/ip for the first, and SSL connection via tcp/ip for the second .. both tcp/ip traffic though, the game data when connecting to a server itself is then handled via UDP ... not TCP/IP difrent protocols, difrent ports.. difrent ways of handling the data streams.....
now, the company doesnt need to be blocking the PORT numbers themselves, and in most cases dont.. they block the data stream type .. all data transmitted specifies what type of information it is... its how alot of firewalls function, especialy these days to counter DDOS attacks, they use stateful packet inspection to look at the contents of the packet before allowing it through...
dialup internet works fine with daoc, dsl, cable, isdn, microwave, wifi all those work fine with daoc... sat doesnt..
obviously its a problem with the sat service... if it was daoc's problem then the problem would be equaly spread between all connection types.. but if its just sat having problem.. then then is the cause..
internet providers blocking or limiting access to certain types of data on the internet has been a problem for years now... try looking up net neutrality where people are fighting for all data to be treating equaly on the internet... wich it currently isnt.

and you might have a point if it were just hughesnet...this is what im trying to stress, when it is ALL satellite customers, from every satellite company - they didnt all decide all at once on the very same day to change the way they communicate with DAoC. then it becomes a negotiation problem on Mythic's servers. It is DAoC's problem pure and simple.

they have bailed on satellite users straight up.
sats are expensive, companies often share, and in that sharing they often have agreements to follow the same standards and policies....
and so far the only complaints are from hughesnet and wild blue... and its not that hard to imagine that there is somethings that connect the two companies together.
or are you saying, mythic put in on there end code to see if someone is connect via sat and to refuse the connection... but not refuse it outright when they try to login, but only when they try to load a character...
it doesnt seem plausible that mythic would do that to themselves..
no its more likely that the sat ISP's rolled out changes to there service at the same time, as most ISPs are changing things in the background frequently, firewall rules are usualy updated daily, so its more then possible the firewalls were updated the same day mythic updated..
and, it could still be mythic... but the more likely culprit is the SAT ...
if i start trouble shooting a computer, and remove a piece of hardware.. computer works normaly, put that hardware back in computer stops working.. then i'm gunna go hey, must be that hardware.. and leave it out.. i'm not gunna sit there and go "oh, i know the problem but i'm gunna blame the cdrom drive instead"...
no, people have problems connecting on sat, others have tested there computers/accounts on a difrent connection and it worked.. there for problem = sat, not the cdrom drive.

well bud-there's alot of alot of coincidences going on for it to be our ISPs -
i think your explaination has less to back it than mine...
i like your analogy though
oh and Hughes sharing with wildblue? why would they? Hughes is a division of Hughes Aerospace- they are running thier ISP off of communication satellites they build for the government.
im pretty sure Wildblue is buying space on someone else's satellite(s)

I think both sides of the argument are valid, but i do have to lean towards mythic being to blame. I am a wildblue customer, but it seems very odd that i was playing while they took the servers down to load the patch. then as soon as they came back up i couldnt log in. It would be a big coincidence if the sat ISPs decided to drop the ports at the same time the patch was going in affect. Plus when i talk to customer service for wild blue they say they havent blocked any games or ports recently that would cause my problem. But on the other hand 2 customer service agents told me they dont block games, even MMORPGs, for wildblue customers. that made me think twice about the honesty i might be getting from them. i just want to be able to get back in the game. wildblue is also going to be launching a new satelite soon that will allow people to get speeds as high as most cable/dsl users. damn comcast is taking forever to get out to where i live. the closest location is only 1 mile away from my house, but there is only about 10 houses within that mile so they arent gana spend the money for that.

you blame mythic and so does other sat users.. but it shows in your post its not based purely in logic, its biased by the fact that you have no alternative high speed internet, wich means for you the only possible fix would be if it was mythics problem.. wich makes you bias and unable to think clearly or see the problem clearly.
now it is odd about the timing... but that still doesnt mean its mythics fault there are odd occurences like that daily in life...
the problem is known, sat internet no longer works for daoc for what ever reason.. and there is a solution use another form of connection...
so even if the problem is something mythic changed, there is a solution so why should mythic waste the time and effort?
waste the severely limited manpower hours they have fixing a problem thats effecting what 10 users? maybe 20?... or try and fix other problems that effect the entire game population?
