What might work would be to offer some access to an SWKotR advance beta at some point in the future - maybe for a weekend.) Could be tricky if there are a lot of subscribers however - and introducing lotteries would be tricky. Doubt they will do anything like this however.

I think you can forget SWTOR. EA produly speaks of a game which is 100% voiceover and tells us this is the fact that will kill WoW. Read it. Its a public announcement.
EA never has been more naive, never has been more far from mental health then these days.

Even Bioware says SWTor will NOT kill anything. Guess it will be a good game, but nothing more or less than the rest of the actual MMO Generation, including Rift. Nothing that will drive the RvR Players off DAoC.
MMO is just the Problem. There haven't been any new online RPG's for years. Just MMOs. Just Fastfood.

concerning fastfood, just now a little provocating truth -->:" A good DAoC player will never, at any point, take any game serious which has these retarded cooldowns on abilitys".

and to be back on topic again,

DAoC has no need of new Areas. Mythic brought new Areas over and over, but one of the things that made this game so godlike were the three realms. I know its kinda mad but what about testing a concept with more than three realms. ^^

Graphic and UI Update would be nice to have. Same engine but a few moving leaves on the trees, things like winds or some physics, or even dropping things on the ground in a proper manner sure will be fascinating.

concerning DAoC UI Update, I tell you the same as I ever told for the 10000x time. Mythic, just dont discuss anymore. Just make a poll which to choose and then just build in one (or more) of the (userbuilt) custom UI's as standard, I think the people developing it would be proud to be part of a greater thing.

And it would be one of these big steps towards a community which is still waiting for steps for years.

I guess, that is true for every game on the market.

Advertising Advertising Advertising!!!

I sent a suggestion on the feedback form that went something like this. Add a disk of DAOC to every game EA puts out on any console. Make it a free 1 month trial, the customer alread sepnt money on the other game and this would allow a good solid amount of time to get ue to the game. I also added to put smeone in charge of the starter guild, so that people just joning the game would have a contact and someone friendly and helpful to get strted with.(DAOC players are notoriously brash to new players, which makes the enjoyment of a new player very low)

This allows a huge chance of developing new players who are not familiar with the game a free look, it will also reach a more diverse variety of gamers. The cost of a cd and a little printing added into an already boxed game is low and the development of new players is great. Low cost with potentially great reward. You don't hav eto hit television, radio and make 10 foot tall promotional displays to have asuccessful advertising campaign, you need to hit the target audience where it spends it's time already.

Blizzard's outrageous subscribership shows what advertising can do, EA hs a golden opportunity to retake some market share.

Sorry but that is not correct.

It was not true about WoW when WoW had 1 million subs.

It was not true about WoW when WoW had 5 million subs.

It was not true about WoW when WoW had 10 million subs.

It is true about DAoC.

It means that advertising something when everyone that would want it, everyone that would play for more than a trial, everyone that would sub, it is pointless advertising because all of the players who would subscribe already have a subscription.

DAoC has been twisted into a psychotic and schizophrenic mishmash/hodgepodge/eclectic nightmare that the typical MMO player would run from; definitely they would not subscribe unless huge changes/repairs were made. The only people that want what DAoC has become are already playing it.

DAOC is a good product, it could be saved through proper management and even made profitable. The biggest problem this game has is an image problem. Old players rarely help new ones, they expect everyone to know it all when they join a group and make fun of them when they don't. New players don't have the resources without searching all over the net for information. The people that are left have played so long they don't remember needing help with quests, and region chats are horrid. People don't want to pay for a game that should be fun and have sarcastic comments to simple questions in /region or /advice. Mythic dropped the ball when they bowed to te people that wanted the classic servers because they didn't like the work involved in TOA. If those servers were the most used and profitable, Ywain would be a Classic ruleset server, but it isn't. Since then the inmates have ruled the prison, not the guards.

If players really want to keep this game rolling, use common sense before you make a snive comment in region to a question instead of answering the actual question. Understand that you may like to solo, but the 50 man zerg of Mids or Hibs or Albs that just rolled you collectively pay alot more of the overall costs of the game then you do solo and accept that is is part of the experience. Lastly keep them from reading the VN Boards, these are poison to the brain to new players. Most people wo post here alot are just opinionated idiots that are trolling to get a +1 instead of actually giving good information.

/agree

A lot on the Ywain Boards don't even play the game. Would be nice if VN would mod those boards to prevent so much trolling, +1 farming, etc.

EAM doesn't help itself where it easily can. It would be nice if whoever was in charge there actually fixed things that need fixing.

This game is where it is for a reason. Mythic's mistakes drove it to the dumper. Advertising people to play a game that cannot be adequately balanced due to a long list of mythic mistakes is pouring money down the drain. People would would want to play thise game know about it. I also don't see how censorship to allow the fanbois to pat each other on the back can help either.

even with all that, most of the people who played 10 years ago that helped form an awesome community have moved on. Hell these days I'm lucky to get an hour to myself a day. There is no way I could dedicate the same time I did 10 years ago to this game. When this game went gear oriented route it killed the casual gamer.

Also the gaming community has changed. You have a whole new genre of gamers that likes different things like (blech) WOW.

I think that Meddyk pretty much hit it on the head. Advertising really isn't the problem. It may have helped some 6 years ago, but we're down to the hard core holdouts now. More people have quit playing DAoC then currently play it, and those people had reasons to leave.

A new rules server would have been nice, but at this stage of the game you can't afford to split the population; it has to be a forced move...which is likely to piss off some of the current hold outs. Mythic could have used the forced Ywain merger to do a lot of things that could have really benefited the game and perhaps caused some people to come back. They didn't do that and the opportunity was lost.

Now it's really too late to do more then maintain what exists and hope that the population remains high enough that EA maintains a profit. As long as it makes a little money, there's no point in pulling the plug.

This is the first mistake we DAoC players as a group make. DAoC is NOT a good product. Just because we few holdouts like it, doesn't make it good or even great. Balance until recently has sucked. testing, implementation and corporate policy have sucked, customer service sucks. DAoC is built on a few great ideas, with poor implentation and mediocre to poor game mechanics. Just because some of us still have fun playing it doesn't mean we should delude ourselves into drinking the kool-aid.

Agree with this. The population of DAoC is filled with douchebags, and that hurts us all as a whole

Mythic dropped the ball when they bowed to te people that wanted the classic servers because they didn't like the work involved in TOA. If those servers were the most used and profitable, Ywain would be a Classic ruleset server, but it isn't. Since then the inmates have ruled the prison, not the guards.

This statement is filled with so much fail I don't even know where to begin. TOA cost them a lot of subscriptions, and classic WOULD have beaten out TOA if players who had a huge time investment in their characters could have moved them to classic rulesets. That option was never given, and STILL classic was strong until Mythic announced that classic players would be forced into the one supercluster. Not until then did the numbers on classic drop, in fact the numbers were better then Devon OR the other cluster (Caerleon was it?) could muster individually until the announcement was made. At that point, classic players went back to their TOA toons since they didn't have any choice in the matter anymore.

Agree with this. The current population of DAoC is horrid, and the VN lot are the worst of the breed. Furthermore, most players are very territorial over their "playstyle" and think that it's some holy sacred cow that must be protected at all costs...and that other playstyles are somehow inherently "wrong". This leads to a lack of objectivity, where your average vn poster can't separate what they do, from the good of the game. They think just because they CAN do something means they SHOULD be able to do it.
