New Classes and Abilities is long over due.

If they advertised this 9 year old game people would LoL @ it but a couple new classes on each realm could bring a fast influx of cash/subs for a last hurrah and wouldn't cost them any near the price of advertisement.

DAOC died for me with ToA and the new frontiers I'm afraid. If I had been able to transfer my character to a classic server then it would have been cool but, well...

Now I am going to play Star Wars the Old Republic with some DAOC friends.

If you played RVR on Kay or would just like to connect with some group PVP-oriented players, I have a thread in the outpost.

To me DAOC was mostly about RVR and I have a sneaking suspicion that while TOR is a two faction game there will be meaningful factional conflict in it.

Which option do you think is most important to the survival of the Camelot community?

None of the above.

The only thing that has any possibility of saving the game would be the “Origin” (DAoC2) selection but based on what Mythic said they were finally planning for Origin, even that would fail. So, None of the above.

I think advertising is the biggest deal here...

Advertising cow pies as fine dinning is pointless. The advertisements may get customers in the door but once they realize what is for dinner, they will leave.

DAoC, though it is a great concept, has been turned into a cow pie. The only people that really like the way the game is now are already playing it.

- Advertising. I'm sure more advertising would help somewhat, but still to retain any new players ads would bring in, a lot of other things would have to happen.
- Origins ruleset. DAOC's history shows that new ruleset servers have largely been a disaster. For one they ruin the population of the older servers. In case you hadn't noticed, there aren't any more servers to cluster with Ywain if you screw up its population with an Origins server. Sure new servers are popular for a few months, but then people get bored of them and leave and the overall population goes down. A better idea would be to create a NF 2.0 that incorporates some of the elements people liked about OF with the better features of NF.
- New classes and abilities. We've reached saturation point with new classes in DAOC. Adding new abilities or types of gear like the Mythirians from Labyrinth could be interesting as long as they aren't ridiculously overpowered and require a lot of grinding or raiding to acquire. Mythic doesn't have the greatest track record on adding new abilities and gear....
- Graphics update. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt as long as they didn't make the new graphics so good that players can't play it on older systems. One of the few things DAOC has going for it is you don't need to have a state of the art computer to play it at maxed settings.

All of these things require dollars and/or dev resources, so the chances of them even being considered are slim to none.

Nothing can bring it back to it's former glory at this point.

Time to move on. Soon enough there won't be a choice.

Technically there is nothing that can be done.

From a marketing perspective advertising won't generate / retain enough new subs.

What might work would be to offer some access to an SWKotR advance beta at some point in the future - maybe for a weekend.) Could be tricky if there are a lot of subscribers however - and introducing lotteries would be tricky. Doubt they will do anything like this however.

Still ....

And then there is an All Access Pass concept: UO, WAR, DAoC - but again there seems little chance of this either.
