I'm just wondering. Since no one has posted this.. But which version of Linux are you running?
Is it the 32bit x86 one, or the x64 bit version..

Then, which Linux are you running?

Only asking to see what others are using.

Currently running Ubuntu 10.04 32bit. And its very stable.

I was using Ubuntu 10.04 amd64. I had no problems.

I'm currently trying it out on FreeBSD 8.02 amd64 (it's patching now). It was significantly more challenging to set up than Ubuntu.

G'day,

Here's the compiled version of Wine with the Catacombs Patch for Ubuntu 10.04 and Linux Mint 9...

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?hx3zdj1ohz8kvvs

This version is what is working on my Wife's computer to play DAOC and it works well. We have not seen any probs with the mouse. If peeps have any probs it'll be no drama to recompile with whatever patch you need.

To enable Catacombs models:
open the Wine Config programme --> Graphics Tab --> Vertex Shader Support - Hardware and Allow Pixel Shader

This is working on a MSI Lappy with Nvidia 9300M. The version for 8.10 which I will post works on an old Acer lappy with ATI X1300.

Hope this helps...

Cheers
Finglor

IMPORTANT: Uninstall the previous version of Wine before installing this!!!

edit: At times it's a little difficult to launch and may require a second double-click soon after the hour-glass disappears

Uh, I hate to say this, but, can you do the same thing with a x64 version?

Running Ubuntu v10.04.2, pretty sure its x86 (32-bit), but not positive. Running the 1.2.2 WINE patch for DAoC v1.108 to fix the wonky mouse and the Catacombs figures. Eggi UI runs fine, but have not tried to use the Options Chooser yet; I will have to give that a go and see how it works in WINE.

Update manager says there is a WINE upgrade to 1.2.x, but I dont want to install it and end up having to wipe WINE off again if the patch is overwritten.

G'day,

I thought you had to pay for Cedega and I thought it's development was lagging (just looking at forum entries) ..... Wine is free .... maybe if you want to pay I'd go for Crossover Games...

Sorry about x64 version - I find compiling tedious and will only do it if I can get something out of it ... yes I a selfish #@!$ard!

Muhahaha!!!

Cheers

Finglor

PS. I used Cedega when I first used Ubuntu and DAOC (about 5 years ago)

Just a quick update on DAoC on Ubuntu..

The patches for catacombs and mouse issues still work in 11.04 as well.

I have since moved to 11.04 32bit from 10.04 64bit, and it works wonders!

There's a glitch here and there with graphics, but nothing major. (a ram acting weird is the only thing I noticed, since I had water turned to classic)
catacombs models work and look just as good, if not better than in Windows.
The lag spikes are not as bad, but they are still there. For some reason, its really bad around Glen and the bridge that leads off to Blendrake keep.
Also, around nGed. (maybe some zone meeting zone work needs to be done in that area to reduce those spikes)

Ran up on a big battle at Blend last night, felt the lag from the amount of people there, but once all the textures were loaded, the lag went
away, and never had an issue. The only problem was, I couldn't tell if there was incoming or not, as it was running so smooth.

Anyways, I tired Wine directly from the WineHQ site, everything runs now, expect for the mouse and catacombs models..
Yes, you can actually now get into the game, and roam around.. However mouse movement is horrid.

With the patch is this thread, Just download it, install it, reboot the computer for the changes to take effect, and go!
It only works on 32bit code.. So, make sure you're running 32bit.

Thanks to everyone thats supported this project!

Mouse movement is apparently fixed in the latest development version (which is not released yet though).

I don't know if the transparent water is ever going to be fixed though. The client still seems to fail to load some graphics from time to time (causing graphics glitches), based on the console spam.

After playing last night with 11.04 Ubuntu, I come to hate unity desktop.

Right in the middle of a BIG battle, I got a bit to close to the side of the screen, and WAM, the stupid slide out quickbar shows up.

As soon as it did, the graphics of the game locked up fully. All sound and combat messages were still going, just couldn't do anything
with it.. Had to actually reboot the system to end the process, and clean the desktop back up.
I'll either try running it in desktop emulation mode, or move back to 10.04.

One of the other things I don't like about Unity, there is no way to currently turn off all the antimation on the desktop.
Compwiz or however it's spelled, doesn't seem to work.

I haven't even tried Unity yet, but I was under the impression that you can just replace it with gnome or KDE if you don't like it.
