I upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 via the Update Manager, but I lost Catcombs models (game crashes if vertex shaders are enabled). I am guessing it changed something in the base WINE install.

I am going to remove WINE and reinstall the 1.2.2 patched version to see if that helps. So I know what to expect, will I have to do it AGAIN once I upgrade to 11.04 as well?

The base of WINE has been updated, and when you use update manager to do it, it'll show the new WINE update there. If you do not uncheck it, you'll loose all the functions that you currently enjoy.

It works near flawlessly for me, better than windows. I could never get the newer graphics to work though. So its old avatars for me, which is just fine. I see no reason why it is not permissible. Kind of at your own risk I suppose.
