I did the step to save the updated file from WINE's website as snoodpatch.patch, but when I type in "patch -p0 < ~/snoodpatch.patch" OR with -p1, either with a space between the < and the ~, or without the space, I get an error in terminal reading:

patching file dlls/wined3d/directx.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 1928
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file dlls/wined3d/directx.c.rej

I copy and pasted the text from the link at ( http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id-10832 ).

At first, I could not even save the text to a file, but it might have been because I was denied permission to save it to the /home folder, and instead saved it inside my /home/username folder.

Am I missing something?

====

As an additional Linux note, I have a parts lookup program which refuses to run in WINE. It acts like it is going to start, then the process (apparently) just ceases to run. The first time I run it after a reboot it hangs on for about 10 seconds; each subsequent time it dies after about 2 seconds.

Here is the text in terminal after I cd to the .wine folder where I installed the program and execute the .exe with ' wine st21.exe '. st21.exe is the name of the windows executable from the program.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3541098/Unsaved%20Document%201.txt

If you could help me decipher what the errors mean, I MIGHT be able to fumble around enough (with explicit directions) to make this program work. Please don't make me Virtualbox XP.

Thank you

When I did the -p0, I also got the hunk failed..
But, doing -p1, patched, and finshed without issues.
Make sure the file is closed, and you are not in terminal at the same time you are trying
to re-write the patch.
It needs to be in your home folder. From what I'm seeing.
Then, reopen terminal, change folders to your build folder. and patch..
(I just copy and paste the commands from here to make sure I've got it all correct)
Once patched. the build takes forever to make.. But, it works fine.
If it stops after 30 seconds, then, you'll need to add the stuff thats missing.
for me, in both 10.04 (ubuntu, and Mint 10), nothing was missing, and it compiled correctly.

Yesterday morning I patched in system updates (did not change wine) and rebooted; after I did, the mouse drags and is hard to move. Everything else runs as before. Has anyone else run into this or have suggestions?

2 days ago, First time I tried playing the game, using a real account, with lvl 50 toons on it.
Playing a ranger during a keep siege was very interesting. As it was close to 30-40 hibs
going against the alb zerg. So, somewhere around 100 of them.

The lag was not that bad.. Considering I'm on a 4 year old computer.
I seem to be able to target better
I seem to have better viewing range as well
I see toons feet move, even at max clip, instead of them just gliding across the grass.

So, my opinion.. Linux works, and does a good job... Its fun to play with, no worries about viruses or adware/spyware.

I run my bot on macbook pro, with wine 1.3.12 (installed via macports) - XQuartz combo, and it works fine as well. Save for reflective water, which is just white if it's turned on.

Intallation required few tricks, but other than that it works pretty ok. Loading the game is slow though.

Ah, I think you missed the 'remove the "/" drive letter in wine.
If you don't do that, sometimes you can't connect at all to the login server. Othertimes, it takes like
8-10 tries, and it finally gets there... but, its so slow..

Step 6. Adding the Patch
From a terminal type:
patch -p0 < ~/snoodpatch.patch
and press enter
if you get an error try this instead:
patch -p1 < ~/snoodpatch.patch
and press enter
NOTE: if you still get an error it may be that copy-pasting from the WineHQ website was in error - go back there and see if they've made a text file for you to copy-paste.

I opened a terminal and did 'gksudo nautilus', and used the window that opened to browse to the folder where I saved the patch file saved as snoodpatch.patch. I then copied it to my /home folder.

I typed in EXACTLY what is noted above. "patch -p0 < ~/snoodpatch.patch", without the quotes.
I am getting the Hunk error I mentioned in a previous post with every version of that command I input. Is it supposed to look more like "patch -p0 < /home/snoodpatch.patch" instead?

I had allready installed the latest version of WINE, so there was no compiling to be done, no building to be done. I thought the patch could be applied to an already installed version of WINE. Where am I going wrong?

OK, my days of playing DAoC on Ubuntu may be at an end. My bot laptop has been hit by the mouse bug.

Until the game loads into the actual playscreen, the mouse is fine. At that point, it does the jumpy does-not-move-right action. Running WINE in virtual desktop does not help, neither does turning off my Compiz, even after a reboot. This seemed to start after allowing some updates via the automatic update manager that I had noticed but put off since the middle of last week.

I understand, after reading up on it, that it will require un-installing WINE, then downloading some version of wine and applying a patch for the mouse problem.

Seeing as how much trouble I am having applying a patch to my currently installed WINE, this just frustrates me to no end.

I need some serious hand holding if this is ever going to work properly again.

Ok, good news. Mouse success!

1) I uninstalled WINE and removed ALL the menu entries in accordance with WINE HQ ( http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ ). Since I only had DAoC and one other program (that would not run anyways), this was not a big loss for me.

2) Using Ubuntu Software Center, I reinstalled WINE 1.2.2.

3) Followed the base instructions for installing DAoC and I now have my mouse back to normal! I was not able to apply the Catacombs model patch anyways, so I am not any further behind than I was before.

Good thing this was on my bot PC, as the character models are not that important on that computer.

I've done it, the Z: with root dir mapping isn't there. Still, patcher, and EULA etc windows load up slower than in my ancient windows machine. It's more or less expected in my eyes though, I suppose the binary needs to do more "unnative" mappings between dll's and .so's than what windows needs to do. Of course there might be something wrong with my settings too.

You could try to use the devel version of wine, aka 1.3.15 or something. Funny thing with wine is that the devel versions have been pretty stable.
