I think making it easier to fill a group would go a long way to bring back more players. This means adding some core abilities required for a group to more classes.

If mythic gave some of the core abilities to other classes we would have more dynamic groups and people would be able to group up faster. You shouldn't be forced to have certain classes to fill an 8man.

In this regard I would suggest creating new support only spec lines for every class/better dps lines for the support classes.

Started Daoc back at launch. I can't think of any worthwhile games 2 play now so I'll give it a shot.

Updated engine and emain would bring me back.

this posts drive me insane...

camelots game engine is up to date, its the same engine that runs newer prettier games like rift...

its not that the game engine needs updated what your asking for is a complete overhaul and re-working of all the textures in camelot, because its the artwork thats outdated not the engine displaying it.

Well thats good to hear. There was a 2nd part of my post you may of missed, the lack of Emain has been the end for me since it was taken out...if Emain returned I would be first in line.

Really guys, what it all comes down to is fun.

Playing in New Frontiers where the game is at today is simply not fun anymore, and to many people, myself included, it has always been a chore to play in NF compared to OF.

I'm not saying we must bring OF back at all cost, but NF cannot stay -- either go back or go forward.

I as others still think this game is the best MMO that was ever made and I have played a good bunch of them over the last 10 or so years, and nothing compares. The deal breaker for me though is always the same thing: New Frontiers.

I can live with a cupple of classes beeing overpowered in certain circumstances.
I can live with the fact that to compete in 8v8 ( for real ) you need a very strong and dedicated team where all members of the team have a very high standard.
I can live with people zerging me on occasion.
I can live with the folks that play with a 'red is dead' mentality, no matter what circumstance.

But I cannot live with this NF debacle, I mean I popped back after 1.5 year of absence for the DE server transfers and used the 14 day free trial thingie. The game was good, it is solid it is fun but the RvR frontier kills all possibilty to achieve something out of the box.

Go to your own realms agramon bridge and find nothing
Go to your mainkeeps bridge and have random casters and stealthers ( mostly archers ) interfearing, greifing and adding on your fights FROM SAFTEY at the base of the keep
**
What is in perticular annoying with this is that the adders take no risc for the reward they get, they idley wait for a visual character to draw agroo if the agroo is not too much for the caster/archer to handle they come down to add, ruining the fight completly with over the top dps wich nothing can stand against - for long. This behaviour have been shaped over the years of NF and has become a whole playstyle where people are running around just doing this their whole play session, vulturing for rps.
**
Travel to the enemys main keep / agramon bridge and get zerged in minutes
Go to your own realms center of the map keep and find nothing
Go to an enemys center of the map keep and try to grief a few expers..meh

Join in on the iRvR activities ( when all realms have instant port into a small area ) and get zerged

The way NF funnels the action makes for very few choies of areas to go, and everyone knows this and the more remote spots are too remote and not worth the time to travel to - so noone does

I really don't understand how anyone could like NF after having played OF, simply mindboggling to me.

Anyone who thinks todays DAOC is a timesink should likely stick with first person shooters.

it might not be as bad a timesink as the gear grind is in WoW, but in DAOC you're not gonna be level 50, ML10, Cl10, RR12, fully templated with ML10 gear that costs hundreds of plat after a week from scratch.

Personally I'd love a classic classes PVP server but I know I'm in the minority. I'd settle for a new server with no Catacombs classes. Pipe dream either way .

What really pisses me off is that Blizzard is catering to the carebear easymode crowd and making Diablo III pvp arena only /barf.

So you want an easymode game or you wont return and then complain that Mythic is making things easier? ooookey.

I'm not following you. Are you saying that PVP servers are easymode? Or classic classes? Or world PVP in the Diablo series makes it easymode? Or playing without IWIN timers easymode?

Personally I consider blue servers as compared to PVP servers, catacombs classes as compared to classic classes, blue Diablo servers compared to world PVP servers all easymode, or at least easier mode. IWIN timers to get kills I also consider easymode. If your timer is up you win, if not you lose.

Please clarify your attack so that I may respond accordingly.

Thank you.

Less abilities = easier game. Thats what i am saying. There is not a single "I WIN" timer in this game, all abilities can be countered either by playing smart or drop a timer your self, ofc knowing WHEN to drop stuff is usualy something the "I WIN button" crowd dont know.
An "i win button" (*sigh*) can just as well be a "i lose button" if droped at the wrong time.

uh, then the game's all about gear and abilities, the knowledge of those abilities, and if you haven't done hours of research on all that you're probably gonna lose. it's basically a puzzle with very little opportunity for actual player skill to shine. one's prowess at sudoku or crossword puzzles shouldn't affect how one dose in an mmo.

the difficulty of an online game where you play against other players is determined by the skill of those other players, not by the number of abilities in the game.

take an aim map in counterstrike for instance, where you have a choice of only two or three weapons. you're saying that makes the game really easy, but not necessarily. it depends whom you're playing against. in a public server with 30 people, there'll be two or three people with outstanding kill ratios because they're quite awesome, 12-15 people who're close to having a 1:1 ratio, and the rest having a very lopsidedly bad ratio because they're terrible at the game.

same thing in daoc. also, suppose an mmo has relatively few abilities, classes, and gear discrepancies compared to another mmo, which has hundreds if not thousands of combinatiosn. which one will be easier to balance?

I think there are a lot of valid points in this thread. Coming from someone(me) who is just returning to the game after 4 years thinks that if they did update the game etc. you would have ALOT of returning subs. I played WoW for a month and i think that game is horrid as hell. I hated the fact you had to wait for the spell to cast on every spell. I think that is a terrible concept especially in a fast paced enviroment like PvP, and RvR. I think they have the PvP, RvR aspect down to a T. obviously the group of stealthers gets a little old, but hey thats part of the game. The price is a little ridiculous for a month considering there are not alot of people around anymore like back in the day. Lets hope for the best and hope that they update sometime soon.
