Say DAOC has 3000 subs at 15 dollars a month That is 45,000 Untaxed. Now cycle in Employee costs, Maint costs, Misc Costs. You dont have much of a Surplus.



They had money to waste on WaR and now more wasted on WoH.

Ain't that the truth. EA know that there's still sufficient numbers who are prepared to pay what is essentially a premium to play an ageing game, because there's nothing currently out there that offers the same sort of gaming experience. But, EA can't be complacent. Other games will inevitably come along that pull people away from DAOC and once the population drops to a level where there's not the numbers to sustain active RvR then the end will be in sight.


The best thing that could happen to DAOC now is for EA to lose interest in it and sell it off to a small studio willing to lavish some love on it, give it a revamp in the areas it needs and attempt to grow it again. A small studio who are fans of the game and genre and have the skills and committment to grow it in a direction that will please remaining players and attract new players too. DAOC2 will probably never happen, but DAOC 1.5 could in the right hands (not EA). The game doesnt need a new graphics engine (the graphics stand up surprisingly well really)) but it does badly need a modern UI. It also needs the content steamlined and restructured in places, to try and unify the patchwork quilt of expansions somehow. It also needs a rethink of New Frontiers (removal of boats for starters).


Perhaps we should start a fans consortium and persuade EA to let go of the old dog they never really wanted to adopt.

Except most American TV series don't know when to end, and only do so after the ratings (analogous to subscribers in games) are low. So DAoC is going to last a while even if it keeps churning more of the same content (tropes in TV), because the subscribers mostly just want to see how it will all end (the series finale).



this is exactly what I meant.

I much rather rewatch old episodes of great material(daoc) than to watch a continuation of the series to the point it ruins it(daoc2).


And because people are people, I'd say that if there WERE a daoc2, people would buy it, play it, say it's terrible and sucks in comparison, and return to daoc. Guaran-freaking-teed

Make a daoc 2 very similar to daoc. It doesn't need to change all that much. Update graphics, UI, add a mail system, keep 3 realm, keep and port system, cut down on pling though. the rest seems pretty dang good. The pvp mechanics are great. Fix the glitches, LoS issues, pet pathing and take a strong look at character balance issues and get rid of crap like locks insta killing people, lag casting, rediculous classes like minst's being able to stealth, vamps with claw spam thata a UI cast and other little things. All in all its not all that bad. The lore is awesome. Make some focus on that but keep the pvp aspect a 3 realm system thats every realm itself. Get rid of the stupid realm hopping. Choose 1 realm and thats its per server period. Bring some realm pride to the game. It lacked that for the past 4 years or so I would say.

Try working this into your schedule please.


1. A Mail System (mailbox) similar to the one in today's MMOs. To be able to mail items and plat to your ALT characters would save alot of time and pain. Relying on other players to make a trade is too risky. Someone new to the game doesn't really want to take that risk. No need for an Auction House though. The Housing System and Merchants work great.


2. A UI that's more user friendly like the one's we see in today's MMOs, but not an exact clone. Seperating the buffs from the debuffs for starters. A Looting System that caters to the class to prevents ninjas. A Party/WarBand Grouping System to save hours of time looking for groups/warbands to join. A Layout Editor allows you to move, multiply or hide any object on your screen. An advanced chat system. Right click on names for menu options, join party, whisper, ect. BOB's UI is great and it's the best Usermade UI I've ever used, but its time for an overhual.


3. Ofcourse above all else I think having your characters move more limber and smooth is the most needed upgrade. The characters movement mechanics compared to today's MMO is like playing the original Vitual Fighter. Very robotic compared to today's MMO. Fixing this would make RvR a hundred times more fun and inviting for new subs.


4. How bout a port system to towers which you control so you can get back in the fight almost instantly. This running down to the dock, taking the boat, then trying to make it across miles of NF to get back to the fight is just stupid. For one, if you're a vizzy 9 times out of 10 you're toast. Plus the travel speed in NF is twice as slow as in PVE areas. So that makes it even harder.


5. Make normal travel speed in NF what sprint speed in NF is now. Or at the very least make the travel speed in NF as fast as it is in PVE areas. On top of that, they need to get rid of the movement reduction speed while in combat. Your speed in and out of combat should remain the same. (unless poisoned, snared, rooted or mezzed)


6. Upgrade the crafting window. If anything needs done to crafting it's this and nothing else.

With the above link, you have the option to craft multiple items with 1 click instead of 1 click per item created.

In other words, if you have enough for 100 items, then when you hit create all, it will create all 100 with that one single click.

Incase you are confused, this means you get 100 or more items created with one click insted of 1 item created per click.

Another way of putting it is, click once, go take a piss, come back and all your mats will be used up and your items in its place.


These are just 6 of my ideas that I believe would make the game much better.
