From an existentialist viewpoint one could take the position that anything in a game is pointless, but that is from an existentialist twisting of things.

Perhaps you missed it but I had included the above comment in my previous post, to acknowledge in advance the different pointless things in a game, hoping to forgo any posts about the pointlessness of any part of a game.

Also, "PvE by its nature is pointless" unless (and this "unless" has a very significant point to it):

you run a game company that is interested in making more money than just enough to barely get by.

you run a game company that wants to have enough money to adequately fund things like RvR/PvP.

you run a game company and want enough money to build expansions.

you run a game company and want to be able to fund new games.

you run a game company and want to stay in business without being consumed by EA

etc. . . .

It should be obvious I'm talking about the player, not the company running the game, that's my whole point. Most MMO players like PVE, therefore if they had really wanted to keep the game going with a higher subscription rate they should have concentrated more on PVE. Problem is that the people who play DAOC now don't like PvE other than an end to being better at RvR and that's who they keep catering too.
