Halo 1 was released on November 15, 2001

Dark Age of Camelot was released on October 10, 2001

Not a big gap between the two.

The Halo franchise is still going 10 years later.

Dark Age of Camelot is still going 10 years later.

Halo 1 got remastered and released November 15, 2011.

Dark Age of Camelot got a patch on October 26, 2011.

Anyone see where I'm going with this?

Is it that hard? Are you that lazy?

Halo = Has money

DAOC = has limited money.

Say DAOC has 3000 subs at 15 dollars a month That is 45,000 Untaxed. Now cycle in Employee costs, Maint costs, Misc Costs. You dont have much of a Surplus.

Need to convince a few big game companies to back em. But that would require revamping the game and trying to sell it to a big company.

Yah, um, unless I am mistaken, isn't Daoc/Mythic kinda owned by the biggest game company out there already?

So much for that happening then heh.

I fixed that for you.

It's not that they are lazy, they are just releasing one of the biggest mmos to come out in while. So I can't imagine after spending im sure of upwards of 180 million dollars that they are going to throw DAoC a bone to get back maybe 2k subs.

Really the only thing DAoC can say it has is endgame. While I like the PvE system of grinding mobs more than quests, it's not anything special. They don't need to revamp or make a DAoC 2. They need to come out with a game of the period with 3 way fighting. And as I've said in many posts, that isn't going to happen, at least not on the large scale. GW2 I've heard has 3 way rvr or whatever, and has good production value I assume. That is probably as close to DAoC endgame the companies are going to be able to do. Who knows? maybe gw2 will be great, I personally don't think it's going to be as great as people make it out to be, mainly because it suffers the same problem Rift has, which is unknown lore(to a majority of the population, I assume it branches off of original gw lore?). Regardless I'll still play it because you can be a short dude with heavy armor. To me, that is epic. Because I'm short.

Anyways back to daoc. Get over it man, there won't be a remastered edition. Does there even need to be? I mean is a decent UI and upgraded graphics really going to be that amazing? I think it would have a greater chance at pissing people off by ruining what they loved. MMO sequels are just bad. To date none have done what the original did. With that said, it'll be interesting to see what GW2 does.

It's like a tv series that has too many seasons. Yeah you like the fact that there's more to see but you are pissed because they have gone way too far with shit.

I think if anything DAoC just needs a server reset. Start from scratch. New server, same ruleset, no transfers. However you won't see this happen because I don't think they'd want to split the population again.

Any way you look at it, DAoC isn't going to get redone, tehre won't be a DAoC2, and it's certainly on it's last thread.

Want 3 way pvp in a new mmo? Look at gw2 or Dominus.

Halo franchise has sold 40 million games world wide and grossed $2 billion dollars. The two are not as similar as you think.

Except most American TV series don't know when to end, and only do so after the ratings (analogous to subscribers in games) are low. So DAoC is going to last a while even if it keeps churning more of the same content (tropes in TV), because the subscribers mostly just want to see how it will all end (the series finale).

Ok.

This conversation on how many Subs DAOC has, has been had so many times. Its more likely about 20000 subs if there are 3000 people on at primetime. Not everybody plays this game 75 hours a week with no job. It's been said the number of subs in video games is often something like 10 times the number of people on at primetime. I have no idea how true this is for DAOC, but their revenue is certainly more than 50000 a month. Didn't you realize DAOC is now run by EA? They are the ones that make the shots, they don't care about the game, and don't have any big ambitions for it. They make a nice little penny off of it every month and they hardly have to do anything for that, and that's the way they like it. I bet if DAOC were in the hands of a small scale private video game company, they would do everything they could to make maximum profit off of it for the long term. But EA doesn't care. They care about money, and obviously DAOC is making them good money or it wouldn't be alive, but they don't care about DAOC for the longterm, it doesn't even make up a fraction of a percent of the profit of the entire company. They just sit back and laugh that people essentially pay for the full price of a brand new game every 1 to 2 months, and they hardly have to do anything to keep it running like this.
