I have trolled for a while, but now to say something.
I love what decal does for the game. It makes our Alleginace more organized and cnetralized, it also makes it easier ot chat. It has made it easier to find that item in the big pile of olthoi at your feet.
I have noticed, hoever, that while it started slowly since July 18th, more people are coming back, a ay doesn't go by that we hear a 'what's up?', followed by a 'OMG, it has been so long'. I have returned and play for me isn't much different without decal excpet I have re-equipped with items that buff me and I buff my own weapons. I also spend the extra minute to search the corpses in front of me for any items of ineterst.
Even if it takes until December I don't see AC dying, nor do I see interest in decal fading. I should note that I am an optimist and I think decal will be done at the latest by september. In the mean time I will do some hunting and I will use my level 38 to buff my clans with VIIs. It is fun to see the look on their faces when my 38 casts VIIS.

You'd swear the game was unplayable as much as people whine, dosboss
From what they've said, I suspect it won't be too much longer--few weeks, maybe a month. Pretty good turn around for a handful of people working on a hobby in their spare time.

However did they manage to play characters the first year or so without decal? Musta just stood around asking people for buffs and trying it figure out rotations one taper at a time. I guess for them it would be like trying to mow the grass with sizzors. Decal isa ride along, some of use jsut learned how to use a scythe

Don't forget Beta too.
Actually, the only thing that I miss is being able to loot more effectively. I've been hunting and questing by hand since ToD came out. It isn't all that hard.

Just commenting on people wanting to beta test..
Beta testing will be almost useless if you are not a developer of a plugin at first, so even if you were to install the new decal eventually, all of your plugins would be broken.
Only the people with the source to those plugins will be able to develop and test their own code at first.
