Yeah as a headline with racist intentions it makes 0 sense. He didn't use any play on words or anything. Is he saying Lin is wearing armor?

It's possible the writer is really unaware, and was trying to be more clever by using what he thought was a word innocuously linked to Asians. Or that he's a closet racist and wanted to sneak the word in...

Or he had zero clue, and is very unlucky for wanting to use that turn of phrase.

This can't last for long, if it does then give the MVP award to Lin.

Like you, I keep waiting for him to come back down to earth. How can this even be possible? But he keeps on delivering.

it's an extremely common metaphor in the sports world. any time a seemingly unbeatable team or player has a weakness exposed you might hear it.

He's still playing at a similar level to lots of other great young PGs... it's people ignorant of the NBA who think his skills are unprecedented (even if his specific circumstances may be).

Furthermore Jeremy Lin isn't even a rookie. He is just starting on his team for the first time. He is a hard worker so when he was not starting, I assume he was doing everything possible to make himself ready to play. That was basically his job description too.

Not even the best PGs in the nba are putting up 25/9 on 50% shooting. But the problem is a low sample. He's played the best out of anybody in the NBA for this 9 game stretch but...it probably won't continue.

His court vision, confidence, poise, leadership and clutchness are impressive though.

Yeah, point guards can light it up in their first 7 starts but how many of those are virtually unknown before they get those starts? That's what really makes his circumstances unique. If he was highly recruited out of high school and a first round draft pick, it wouldn't be a story.

The assist aren't too impressive when you look at his assist/turnover ratio. And part of his individual success is attributable to the team effort, Amare Stoudemire is one of the best forwards in the league, Tyson Chandler and Landry Fields have been playing very well. Lin is a player who on another team could be producing a lot less. But Lin is definitely succeeding at the leader role and making his team flow.

I'm not saying he won't be a premier PG in the league, though. He's just hasn't earned a legend status by any means yet (and not even elite status, although it looks like he at least has a chance of winning playoffs).

This is when stats totally don't tell the whole story though. Fact is, this kid came in and made his mates believe and now they're winning games. Who cares about an ast/tv ratio when they're winning? I mean Linning.

I wasn't arguing against any of that, just that his individual skills are not unprecedented. It's the team chemistry he is making which is the larger factor here.
