I honestly think any player that came in and made the Knicks win 8 out of 9 would have received similar treatment. The NY media hopped on the Amare/Melo bandwagon too, it just didn't take off because they didn't win many games.

Knicks fans are so hungry for even an above average team, that they'll over hype anything and everything that causes them to win a few.

The Lin story is a genuinely amazing story but the media is doing the kid no favors. Way too much pressure and hype. 1 more weel of this and there'll be a backlash, people are gonna start hating Lin and the Knicks just like they started to hate Tebow and the Broncos...all due to media over coverage.

Derrick Rose came in and led the Bulls out of a decade of mediocrity and never received even 1/5th of this amount of hype.

im a sacramento kings fan, so you can understand my unbiasedness toward the rest of the teams in the NBA. i enjoy the sport, and the only team i truly dislike is the lakers (b/c of what they did to us in the early 2000s)

anyways, love rose and what he's done for the bulls. dude's a stud, and could easily win back-to-back MVP this season. you're right about his lack of hype, not sure why exactly. i think the fact Jordan owned that city for so long, it's some big shoes to fill, no matter who and how good you are.

the media is designed to raise people up, and tear them down. they NEED stories like this to survive. if all they did was recap scores each night, very little viewers would tune in. it's in human nature to be fascinated with an old-fashioned underdog story, and the fact Tebow and Lin are both vocally religious, makes them controversial underdog stories. this is the media dream, and the media LIVES for these story lines, no matter the effect on the person involved.

it's going to be tough for the kid at times, but to him i'm sure it beats the practice squad and getting cut every few months.

My problem with all this is that I actually tune into to sports networks in order to learn more about the league. I can't watch all these games so I rely on NBA TV and ESPN to let me know about whats going on. Not only who wins and loses, but also indepth player analysis for both NBA and NFL.

When they ignore that, and dedicate most of their time covering Tebow or Lin, eventually I will lose interest. I want to hear about what Tyreke Evans is doing. I want to hear about how Kemba Walker is doing. I want to hear about how and why the Spurs are so hot right now. But when you have 45 minutes of of an hour dedicated to Jeremy Lin and then only with 15 minutes left you have analysts saying "ok, now lets finally talk about the defending champs the Dallas Mavericks..."

it strikes me not only as bizarre but also unprofessional, uninformative and irresponsible.

Ah damn...I hate the hype but I gotta admit, Lin is pretty damn amazing.

28 points 12 assists on 11-19 shooting...WTF, this ain't no fluke

and 4 steals and 7 turnovers...still turns it over way too much

Sad part is he had 5 or so assists in the first half and 0 turnover. He just gets in trouble when he gets deep on a drive and tries to send a miracle pass to someone.
