Federico, 28, said he understands why he was axed. "ESPN did what they had to do," he said.
He said he has used the phrase "at least 100 times" in headlines over the years and thought nothing of it when he slapped it on the Lin story.
Federico called Lin one of his heroes - not just because he's a big Knicks fan, but because he feels a kinship with a fellow "outspoken Christian."
"My faith is my life," he said. "I'd love to tell Jeremy what happened and explain that this was an honest mistake."

I had to think about it for a while before I caught the problem. I have not heard the word "chink" used as a racial slur for a while.

They had a replay of the play by play on the radio this morning
I think it was taken out of context (talking about this radio guy, not ESPN)
he meant it like it sounds. a chink in hte armor.. an achilles heal type of thing
but in this PC world we live in, its going to offend someone

Lin is getting this much press for one reason, and it has nothing to do with him being Asian. He was literally 5 days away from NOT BEING IN THE LEAGUE ANYMORE.
Then he leads NYK to 6 wins in a row, while putting up better stats than almost any rookie starter EVER. THAT is why it's so OMFG LIN WTF!!!

Hell no it wouldn't be anywhere near as big a story. If Lin was a phoenix sun there's no way he'd be on the Colbert Report, CNN and Saturday Night Live.
