It broadens quite a bit at the 3rd book, meaning I can understand why people think it's starting to wander, but after finishing the 5th, I can report that it is very cohesive.
People who stopped liking it are turds, this series is better than OK, it's fantastic. But his approach to writing is totally in sync with my own, so I have alot of respect for it

I need to get back into that. I really enjoyed how the show follows the books chapter by chapter. They really don't miss much of anything. You almost don't have to read the books.

He means book four, A Feast for Crows. The first three are all equal in quality, in that that are the best fantasy written today. Even the AFFC and now the fifth book are still really, really good. If you know Jordan, think what happened to him after about four books too (but not as badly in this case). Basically he has become so wildly successful that the editors aren't taking a needed hand to help keep the work under control and sweat it down to the highest of quality. There are a lot of places you can look up more info, but I won't say more at the risk of spoilers.

I'm reading book 5 now. I've known about the series, but never read it. Just started it a few months ago. Enjoyed it so far. I've definitely learned that no one is safe....anyone could get carried away....or lose their head....or....
Looking forward to watching the series. But that will have to wait. No HBO, no desire to spend $
