It isn't always what everyone wants and it can be done anywhere. Some people use it the instant a shadow is cast over them, lol. Removes any kind of challenge to exploration or working outside. I understand both sides of it, after all I'm the one that built the script, but I think it does get overused sometimes.

Honestly, the only thing I miss is the /home command, ohh and being able to turn off property damage from creepers.

well if they want it to go night for some reason, all they have to do is ask... its been asked before

Been playing a ton of Industrial Craft and working a lot lately (also can't pop in cus I tweaked the hell out of my .jar files)...

Gonna go figure out how to run two set ups...a pre and a Industrial Craft/Buildcraft modded version.

BTW Anyone else play Iindustrial Craft? I frickin love it and might even figure out how to run a server for it.

Regarding the idea of a re-start after the official launch, I'm fine with that, though I've only been playing for a few weeks so I have nothing to lose. I don't know how the game works, but if the map as it is is downloadable for offline play, or as a reference for people who've invested time to see how they did something tricky before, then that'd be cool. Does the map reset mean people lose what they're holding in their player inventory as well as chests?


As for Aziz, if it's kept after launch perhaps there'd be benefit to having a limited use, like allowing its use once every 4 day/night cycles if there are two or more players on the server. I've used it a few times while the only player on the server (and perhaps another time after asking players if it was ok to use it...memory is fuzzy) but it gets flogged day-to-day. If it gets removed, I'd be fine with that.


As for requesting night time I've done that and other players generously allowed it but a day or two ago one player requested night so he could sleep and anther player refused in a very unpleasant manner. Whatever the history for those players, Aziz was used in spite and the other player just logged off. I know that's not a fault of Aziz but it underscores the potentially equalizing benefit of removal or limitation.

The server now has Rcon and Query support.

What does that mean?

I believe it means that the server now has built-in remote administration features.

Confirmed. A new server.properties entry now exists, called:
enable-rcon=true

It is false when you upgrade, so you need to change it to true and also add a password property (and restart the server) in order to use it:

rcon.password=<your password>

Once enabled, rcon requests are serviced on port 25575. But I don't know any more than that. EDIT: Apparently rcon is a general purpose game administration system. There's even an (iOS) app for that.

rcon (remote control) lets you perform actions on a server remotely. I've used it on tf2 servers back when I hosted one for my friends. I'm not sure what sort of control we'll have in the context of Minecraft or what advantages it will have over a simple ssh connection other than security should you be dumb enough to not use certificate-based authentication.

I did not know you could grow chickens in the nether. I wonder if you can grow them in the End?
