Oh man poor Ocura!
I did the same thing, moved my bed instead of making a new one, then died before nightfall.
One nice thing about going back to Spawn is that I decided to have a look around and did a tour of a bunch of places. Plus Inashadow led me on a great adventure/tour as well.
Your story had me laughing at the lava ladder trick, I can just imagine that's the sort of thing I'd do in real life. Reminds me of the time I set off the chemical-bench shower at work...

any suggestions on how to get 1.9 working? whenever I try to load up minecraft, it gets stuck at the loading.

Try deleting your minecraft folder (or renaming it if you have saves and mods you want to keep for later) and reloading from scratch. Then replace the 1.8 jar with the pre4 jar and it should load right up.
I'm having a login issue. Says "Too many failed logins" when I try to login. I can login to the site and I can use the web game but no matter what I try I can't get the client to work. Sadly the web game doesn't seem to want to run pre4 so I can't get on the server. Busy as hell in the yard though so not missing it too much but would like to drop in on breaks.

edit: nvm, got it figured out. Now time to find new cool stuff in 1.9. Haven't played since 1.5.. I think lol

I started playing single player hardcore.
I'm using this seed: -209132691601072514
it spawns you in a forest, near a plains with a village in the distance, it has a couple of ravines close by.
first thing I did after taking down a few trees, I killed three sheep, and then took over one of the village houses, making it my house, put a bed in, a furnace, a chest and a crafting table.
by that time it was night, so sleep in the bed, and then go harvest the wheat the village had. then go back to the forest and cut down lots more trees, enough to make a lot of fencing to make an enclosure. then run around getting pigs and sheep and chickens and cows.
and then explore very carefully. lol
level 5! Woot

What errors/problems are you guys having? I've been getting Too many failed logins when I have the time to try. Not got much time to play right now though so not chewing my arm off or anything, lol.
