I just started playing again (after a 4 year break..) and like to play a lot of alts. However, since heirlooms make alt play so much better now I want to get one char to 80 asap. Any suggestions?

Back when I played (just original wow), rogue/hunter were quickest imo.

Most classes rip through mobs like wet tissue paper after the recent talent/spell changes. Pick a class you like and go bonzai.

What Talehon said.

All the classes solo very well, there isn't any doomed soloing classes like the old days. Â

It is more important to find what you LIKE to play, than worry about a slight difference in speed, else you are going to waste a lot of time for nothing once you get to 85 and realize you hate your class and need to do another one.

I survived to the end and got nothing out of it, but hey.

Agreed.

Play the class with the style you like. They all, pretty much, rock right now.

What they all said. You really don't need heirlooms. Quest and run dungeons whenever you can. You'll be decked out in blues on your character permanently from level 25 and on. And the 20% XP bonus from heirlooms is negligible, seriously. The leveling is just that fast (and fun.)

Pally imo.

I, on the other hand, prefer a command-line system 'cause i'm so hardcore
/north /north *You encounter an [Avatar of the god Set]!*
/cast sheild *sheild spell unavailable*
/csat shield *csat: unknown command*
*[Avatar of Set] beheads [Peasant]*

Wait a week and do it with the new 1-60 areas with The Shattering.

If you have an existing level 55, roll a DK. They start at level 55. You walk out of the starter zone at level 58 (at a minimum) and right into Outlands, fully geared in good gear and ready to head to 70. Takes about 4 hours if you're new to the quests to get to 58. (i can do it in 2, but I've rolled at least a dozen during testing.)

As a melee class, both frost (AoE) and unholy (with pet) and self-heals as part of doing damage make this am easy butter-slicer class. There are quests in Northrend that often are group quests (elites) that the DK can solo. Not as easily as say a prot pally, but played right, just a chain-pulling monster.

There are those who play tank classes, and those that tank.
The weapon is only as good as the person wielding it.
Free advice is often worth what you pay for it: nothing.

Dk is a class with almost zero downtime. Fun and can solo a lot of content that a lot of other classes can not.

Druid is also a fun class, as cat/bear also non stop soloing, able to heal or caster dps as a off spec if you like...very nice to have.

as the others already pointed out, ALL classes can solo very well.

Thanks for all the input so far. I think I'm gonna go rogue for now.

I'm playing 3-4 classes now and will lvl the rest once the new areas come out. I'm enjoying playing in the old zones, nostalgia ftw.
