I think that yes.. it could happen.. but the amount it would have to be happening on a scale of users on this board that have claimed their account was stolen by Blizz vs the millions of Subs....one would have to assume we should start a Vn Boards WoW Forum lottery pool. Because this board would have to be the luckiest (unluckiest) slice of society.


...and if the trolls (lovingly) here have put 2 and 2 together....



I think it would be much easier than you think, all it would take with someone with access is to do a database search on dormant accounts with e-mails attached then download a copy of the findings to a flash drive. Boom you probably have a million or more exploitable accounts to sell in with a few minutes work. Next said employee sells it to a buyer who then can turn around and sell it to others buyers to make his money back and or exploit the accounts himself. Within 24hrs you could have dozens of hacker/gold farmer organizations after a million or more accounts.


If the the employee/employees sell an updated list once a month or even once a week you would have the kind of scale that becomes noticeable by posters here.

Ya know, for all the times I have replied to these threads with a response of "Well, you are doing something wrong, I haven't been hacked in 10yrs of gaming" I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later . .

I like this reply... because it just pointed out that I've been unnecessarily using capitalization in my blizzard passwords for about a decade.

It is ok, lesson learned and all of my stuff is already restored.


On a funny note, the "hacker" must of got mad and saw that most of my "wealth" was in the form of about 73 enchanted thorium blades and misc low level greens (aside from my equipment I was wearing) and decided to delete my toon lol.

I think they delete the "main" so that no one on friends lists still sees the logging in and out...


Catching this once..."Friend removed because character no longer exists"... on one log-in is much less obvious than seeing:

"your buddy bob logged in"
"your buddy bob logged out"
"your buddy bob logged in"
"your buddy bob logged out"
"your buddy bob logged in"
"your buddy bob logged out"
"your buddy bob logged in"
"your buddy bob logged out"


especially when your "buddy" won't return any tells...

A guild member got hacked yesterday and I couldn't help but think of this today as what we believe to be the hacker was on today begging for guild vault access...
