When I attempted to log in tonight, I found the "Account locked for suspicious activity" message. It seems I've been infiltrated somehow.

I remember reading a thread here a couple months ago that seemed pretty compelling in favour of someone inside Blizzard possibly hacking into accounts.

Here's what I can tell you:
1) I absolutely do not have a keylogger. I do not have an account authenticator. I have never ever shared my account with anyone, nor even given anyone access or the password. I can guarentee all of those things.

2) I have run both virus and malware scans, both of which resulted in 0 problems. I always use Firefox with both adblock and noscript, and have since my last reformat six-ish months ago. I have not downloaded anything other than porn vids and pics over the few days. (I'm sure someone will come here and say I've missed something, but I'm quite careful about what gets on to my computer.)

3) My password was pretty strong, letters and numbers, and longer. I have not had any problems with any other accounts I log in to (email, facebook, etc.) I did change my email password to a much stronger one just to be sure.

4) My account was cancelled less than 2 weeks ago. I recently went to confirm that cancellation 3 days ago. My access is set to expire on the 20th. I haven't logged in since 2 nights ago, when I played only for a short time before logging out again. None of my characters had a guild, if that's relevent.
______

I find I actually don't care much that my level 85 protadin was deleted upon regaining access. My 80 mage was stripped naked too. Surely they can restore my account to a point before 3 days ago. But I'm really not sure how it is that my account was accessed outside of a straight brute force on my password/account.

I don't actually believe that someone at Blizzard is responsible, but having eliminated pretty much every other potential avenue (again, outside of a random brute force hack) I can't really see how someone got in.

You can also just spare me the authenticator lecture. I don't actually care about my stuffz enough to go out and get one of these things. I keep my computer secure enough that I feel safe without one.

Bored and trolling I take it? You admit to one of the more common malware vectors (porn downloads) and then claim to be careful about what gets on your computer. You claim to have a strong password when WOW passwords aren't even case-sensitive. Get a better hook if you wan't to do some trolling.

I don`t know whats with the trolling accussion, but anyways.
It is already bad enough that your email addy is the acc name. I haven`t figured yet if it is possible to make a seperate name instead of that stupid emailaddy.

Pretty much killing half the job for the hackers, if I am not seeing things wrong.
Unfortunately there is no 100% protection but the thoughts of some Blizz dude doing stuff is not far-fetched. Probably some mole like in "24" ;P

You were just compromised in some way and haven't discovered it. It's great that you're security conscious, and that the scans turned up nothing, but obviously something happened. A scanner is only as good as its definitions and signatures, and they're reactive not proactive.

Just go through the motions and work on getting your assets recovered. If there is some grand conspiracy at play and some well compensated Blizzard employee has found some need to hack accounts to, I don't know, feed their crack habit, there's nothing you can do. So just go the normal route.

Today you really need to have authenticator on your account even if you cancel your sub as they will prey on dormant accounts.

I know mine was dormant for a little over a year, almost immediately after canceling my sub I got fake e-mails regarding it in one form or another on a constant basis, after I re-uped when Wrath came out they pretty much stopped.

What with all the insider information that pops up on WikiLeaks I don't think any intelligent person could rule out the possibility that some Blizz or ATT employee since they maintain the servers may be the source.

But who cares hacked is hacked although I don't think having your information given out would be considered to be hacked it would be more of a compromised situation.

Why has nobody noticed that the authenticators are made in.. <drum roll> China! I bet some Blizzard employee has cut a deal with not only a Chinese gold farming racket, but also the Chinese manufacturers of the authenticators! Heck, the two Chinese companies could be one and the same!

Seriously!
