All MMO's are the same it just a cow of a different colour. That said taking the same stuff put togeather just a little differently can be refreshing.
Totally disagreeing here.
Ultima Online / Asheron's Call / SWG (at release) are all very different from EQ/DAoC/EQ2/WoW/LOTRO/Rift/Aion/WAR/AoC and all the other EQ clones.
All it takes is some major dev to really grow a decent pair of <censored> to get something REALLY different from what invaded the market nowadays.
That being said, and I do not not actually disagree with you.
EQ/DAOC/WoW/EQ2 were all great games.
LotRO and Aion were decent
WAR and AoC were asstastic
Rift is still "up in the air" until we actually get in and get to play with no restrictions.
So, while they are all clones of each other, it doesn't mean that EQ was the only good mmo.

If you thought that I pretended EQ was the best MMO, then you need a good pair of glasses or a new screen

SWTOR: 50 Jedi Shadow (Tank), 50 Sith Marauder (Annihilation).
LOTRO: Lifetime account, playing very casually.
WoW: Both accounts canceled for now.
GW2: Future Warrior.

It is surprising that UO did not give birth to more children. As the First, it should have been a reference to all successor. It was a great game at his time, crappy graphics but a complex gameplay. Also, it was a true PvP game as it was very dangerous to go out of the city gates.
I look forward to play Rift. WoW is definitively a great game but I need something new and sadly WoW will always be WoW.

For a game that is flexing its muscle for pvp in a total open world.... they sure are a gluten for punishment with the design and open theory in the way one can build a class/charactor..
This game is a min/max persons wet dream... I bet you within 6 to 12 months there will be so many kids min maxing in this game that they will literally have to just about redesign the soul/talent tree mechanism ... tell me what dev team could handle this? hell even Blizz cant get it right after 6-7 years with the standard number of classes .. look at frost mages..
The dev team for this game arent gods...... they bit off way more than they can chew for pvp class balance ..watch youll see.
ill check back in a year .. by then the game will be thriving with an Xpac prolly by that time... or it will have died off.
good luck guys ! I really mean that.... iam always searching for AC1

As said in this thread, at least a few times, no one is really getting the ID that they are going to worry about balancing classes for pvp or pve.

I didn't exactly say that, but with 336 different combinations of souls per calling, with total combinations in the 10s of thousands, if you count the different possible ways to allocate 66 talent points, I think they know they have a fun way to build characters, and one that can't possibly in the life time of the universe be balanced.
I'm not saying they aren't going to tweak and nerf, or boost where it is needed, but if you are looking for true balance, Tetris is calling.

You are missing the point here... here is the problem ,,,,
they tout 336 combinations.. but at the end of the day, you know how these things go.. ive never played a game that was designed around pvp where you could just follow your heart and do what YOU like 100% or follow your own logic in designing a build from the ground up.. of course the devs can never get 100% balance... but ill bet you 20 bucks paypal that by the end of the year, youll wind up with about maybe half a dozen "builds" that are funneled into reality of trying to survive in this game in open world pvp.... sites like elitist jerks or arena junkies will pop up for this game allowing you to see the hard numbers testing and build mechanics for the bestt possible CC or DPS or ect...
pvp MMOS are dog eat dog and there are two levels of players .. the hardcore and the casual ... the hardcore will thrive to figure out what the best possible pvp builds are going to be and that WILL set the pace in what you think you can and cant play as far as builds (maybe not for the pve servers) I promise you , you will want to know if something sucks and even though you would maybe like to use-take-build it for your own reasons, you wont because of the min/maxing possibility of this game not allowing you to---hence, you dont want to be gimped for pvp.
I must use a simple old example here.. in AC1 nobody takes thrown weapons on darktide.. its freaking retarted ... but thats the thing.. the devs put awesome weapons for that weapons spec in the game.. they pretend and have designed it to be viable for whatever reason... and will never admit it sucks .. and will keep it in the game... but none take it... it just sits there.... thats whats going to happen in this game i truly believe for this games many many builds, specs and abilities. The main point here is that what the game touts and what the REALITY is when the game hits the pavement are two different things.. what if I saw a video online of a guy using thrown weapons in AC1 back in the day and I was like "wow COOL" and I bought the game... boy i would be one sad sorry sonofabitch at the end of everyday and realize i would have to roll UA, sword, or mage.
my main argument here is just that... how the hell are they going to tout 336 different combos when they have no way in hell of balancing those out.. which we know they cant based on 10 years of MMOs of all genres.. it seems kinda stupid to me.... and it should insult peoples IQ here.. we know better.
