Im not justifying botting at all but - if something in your game is so boring or tedious that a player uses a bot, then they need to look at changing the mechanics of that "something".
If the game was so exciting you needed a doctors permission to play people would still bot and cheat. It is not boredom it is lazy.

From what I was reading, the archaeology bot in question (who shall not be named) apparently sent messages to a chat channel for navigation. I mean, LOL? Botters apparently tend to be some of the absolute stupidest people in the game -- including barrens chat.

It is amazing the amount of excuses I see for cheating. I have seen it for over 10 years. Every last one of them acts like this was unfair and it was an honest mistake. I expect we will be seeing the same lame posts again 10 years from now.

Yeah I read that whole thread,good stuff. Too bad I don't have an active account now, would be curious how many of my old guild's bg players got whacked. Most of them logged and whatnot and you never could get a peep out of them

that's not true. it's more about the type of game. it's about games that build slowly over time. those are the ones that get botted. if the game has no mechanics that you have to do over and over and over and over (no matter how exciting the thing you do over and over and over and over is) it won't get botted.
- i've never seen any pac-man bots.
- i've never seen any knights of the old republic bots.
- i've never seen any grand theft auto vice city bots.
- i DID see grand theft auto san andreas bots though. why? becuase they added stuff like working out that you had to do over and over to build up.

It's still laziness. Nothing in the world forces you to... PLAY a video GAME.
If you have to cheat to have fun, wouldn't it be better not to play at all, and play another game instead?

Iv'e never botted but i agree with botting.
My mates bot went into a bg and came out 32-0.
unless they have a ranking system that the best randoms can play against the best(with extra honor for harder games) then people will keep botting becuase 9/10 games are boring one sided and tedious.
