I also have several friends who were getting burned out on WoW and wanted to try something new. My preference would have been DC Universe for something completely different and I freaking loved City of Heroes, yet I bowed to the majority and picked up Rift to join them yesterday. My point to posting was that my inital impression was extremely poor. This is without ever getting to the game proper since I couldn't get past patching.
Their patching service was completely missing in action. Nowhere on their forums was there any offical response to an issue that seemed to be pretty much effecting everyone that had not already been patched to current version. In their technical help area I found another potential player, yes, a player, not someone associated with the game or customer service who had figured what they had done with their own patching service that was preventing people from downloading a 1.25 GB patch at more then 1-5kps that frequently timed out into random errors.
Long story short you had to manually edit your Hosts file under Windows in order to get to the direct update service. But to think players are already creating work arounds for game breaking bugs that prevent people from even getting into the game does not speak highly about Trion's long term future in the MMOG universe.

I may be the only person in the US not caring a whit about the upcoming Star Wars MMO. Probably speaks more to my feelings about the genre than Star Wars itself as I actually liked most of the movies.
Nah you're not alone. I couldn't care less either. Zero interest.

I can add 4 more people to that list. If I hadn't heard about it on the WoW board (this thread and the original Rift thread here from the same poster no less), we would have had no clue that another star wars themed game was coming out. Isn't this like the 3rd, if you count Lego's version?

There are those who play tank classes, and those that tank.
The weapon is only as good as the person wielding it.
Free advice is often worth what you pay for it: nothing.

That trailer was helpful. Before, I was pretty sure I didn't want to play Star Wars, now I am 100% sure.....

Oh don't say that, you might give me a reason to play it so I can grief the hell out of you.
